Demon's Crystals is a fun twin-stick shooter that reminds me of some of my favorite Housemarque games but easier* and with a vampire-anime-girl vibe that I think noise would like.

*except for the fucking last boss, which took me as long to beat as the rest of the game combined.

Blek is a fun puzzler and offers a clever use of the touch screen, but I don't know that it is deserving of the hype I remember it having (at least not in retrospect).

Destiny 2: Forsaken is indeed to Destiny 2 what The Taken King was to Destiny 1, which means that it is all kinds of awesome and absolutely the kind of thing to suck me back into the game for way too many hours. I will share more about it once I feel I am far enough along with the power leveling (I finished the campaign and hit the soft level cap), but suffice to say it is an excellent return to form after a mostly disappointing series of smaller releases.

I completed Beyond Good & Evil on the Microsoft XBOX this evening!

Beyond Good and Evil is a solid and wonderfully executed game. It is hard to find absolutely any faults in the game, though it doesn't grab you like other fantastic games. However, what is here, is really well executed and incredibly fun to play. The story leaves enough to the imagination without spoon feeding you everything. The combat is engaging and each concept is introduced at a very brisk pace. A very likeable character and a unique setup round out an excellent game.

I lol'd at "vampire girl vibe," though I generally don't care for twin stick shooters.

269. Spider-man(ps1)

Although I have not bought spider-man for ps4 yet, all the hype inspired me to go back and play the original spider-man for ps1.

Spiderman, in my opinion, is the first true superhero game ever made. Prior to its release there were a ton of amazing 8 and 16 bit superhero games, but none of them captured the essence of being in a comic book the way spider-man did. Everything about this game showed a lot of love and dedication to the source material in a way that other games of its day did not. The voicework is amazing, stan lees narration is amazing, the plot could have easily been a series of episodes in a saturday morning cartoon series, and you get a huge wealth of cameos.

Not only did it look and sound the part but it felt great too, no other game made you feel like spidey the way this game did, web swinging was fun, as were all the cool things you could do with your web shooters. I remember when this game was released, it completely blew me away and I played through it multiple times(something I rarely do).

I have not played the game in years, not since ps1 was in its prime, I always wanted to but also worried that it did not age well and a modern playthrough would taint my memories of the game. Of course it did not age well, the camera is trash, the digital control feels weird, and the combat is overly simplistic, but I still did have fun with it. Despite its flaws it is a well made game, and while I certainly would not recommend it to a person who has never played it, I'm glad I finally replayed it.

You do have to be in the right head space for this game for sure but overall I loved it, probably an 8/10 for me. In ways I like it more than Shadow Hearts and vice versa. I enjoyed the Shadow Hearts lead characters a lot but it's always fun to play as older adults in games like here in Koudelka, her and Edward were great. The atmosphere, graphics, music, is top tier and really impressive for the PSX. I wouldn't really change anything about Shadow Hearts but I think more Koudelka styled installments with a different battle system could have been something really special, but that's the survival horror fan in me talking. The shorter ~10 hour adventure and isolated gothic mansion/dungeon setting is always something I love. The game is comparable to Silent Hill 1 for me, mechanically it's rusty around the edges and doesn't have the best gameplay, but the pros and good elements excel beyond the norm and really carry it.

Partridge Senpai's 2018 Beaten Games:
Previously: 2016 2017
* indicates a repeat

1-20

21-40

41. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: Expansion Pass DLC (Switch)
42. Battle Block Theater (Xbox 360) *
43. Magicka (Steam) *
44. La-Mulana 2 (Steam)
45. Yooka-Laylee (Steam)

46. Snipper-Clips: Cut it Out Together! (Switch)

I hung out with a friend I hadn't seen in a while the other day and we had some extra time, so we played Switch in one of the lounge buildings at my old college. We ended up having so much fun we played through it from beginning to end

Snipper-Clips was the poster-boy first-party game for the Switch's eShop at the time of the system's launch, and there's a good reason for that. It's a great game! You and another person (up to 4 people) each control a little paper shape. You turn yourself and cut the other's shape by overlapping it with your own to solve puzzles like manipulating liquids or filling in outlines. It's only a couple hours long, but it's tons of fun to play and replay with other people :D

Verdict: Highly Recommended. If you have anyone you wanna play games with, gamer or non-gamer, Snipper-Clips is a game simple and slow enough that anyone can enjoy regardless of skill level. It takes some brain power, so it's probably best not to play it with a little-little kid, but if they can figure out how to move the little character, then they're bound to have a good time ^w^

Let me preface this by saying that I've neither read nor seen any of Game of Thrones. Aside from the internet's saturation of "Winter is coming" memes, I had no exposure to the series whatsoever before this game. With that said, it's important to note that my impression of Telltale's Game of Thrones series comes from a total newcomer to Game of Thrones rather than established fans who are familiar with the source material.

If you've played any of TellTale's series, then you know how Game of Thrones goes from a gameplay perspective. You make some choices, talk to a bunch of people, realize that your choices were stupid and kick yourself mentally for the next four hours, do some quick time events, and repeat. Game of Thrones is entirely keeping with the established norm for TellTale's narrative series, and that's what makes it so damn good. Like their other series (at least the ones I've played), the character development is so incredibly well done that you really do grow attached to them, and because it's Game of Thrones, their inevitable gruesome deaths hurt all the more because of it.

Image

You play as some random soldier dude - I don't remember his name, so we'll call him Greg - on the eve of some big event (I think maybe the apparently infamous Red Wedding?) when you're attacked out of nowhere by ninjas or something. Well, it was just another regular army attacking your army, but it was a cripplingly effective surprise attack, so I'm going with ninjas. Anyway, after you escape from the ninjas, you make your way back home just to be told "Hey, you're our scapegoat. Off to the certain-death exile place with you!" to serve on a suicide mission. From there, the story revolves around the noble family that Greg was serving and the lord's children through their various exploits. At one point or another, you play as all of the kids except for the adorable younger daughter. You learn about the world, the politics, the places, and the characters that inhabit that world. Then you scream, cry, and sometimes throw your controller in rage when they meet their inescapable and tortuously well voice acted demise.

As is the case with the Game of Thrones novel and TV series from what I've been led to believe, this game plays with your emotions and revels in putting your heart through an orange juicer. Good luck putting the controller down, though, because the characters and story are just too damn engrossing to stop playing no matter how much pyschological turmoil the game causes you. I have absolutely no attachment to Game of Thrones, and I was still ensnared from the first half hour. It was begrudgingly that I turned off my Playstation after episode four to go to bed. I can't speak for how much long-time Game of Thrones fans would feel about the game, but for a total newcomer who loves a good story and well written characters, this game is a near masterpiece.

TellTale's Game of Thrones is perhaps their best work yet. At the very least, it's second only to their Walking Dead series. It's masterfully written and pulls the player in with or without any previous exposure to the IP. My only complaints with the game (only one of which is a legitimate gripe about this particular game) is that there were some performance issues - I had several instances of crashing - and the fact that season 2 has been delayed multiple times although TellTale insists that it's still happening. Eventually. I cannot recommend this game highly enough. It's worth noting, though, that my friend, Jerome, took exceptional umbrage to the game's toying with his emotions, and was left with an opinion of the game a bit more bitter than mine.
