Games Beaten 2017
Re: Games Beaten 2017
Tron Bonne looks more like Legends 1 Tron than Legends 2 Tron, which is promising to me. Was really disappointed with her lack of focus in 2 and how she seemed like a totally different character!
Does Mischief Makers hold up? That's one I played once back in that day, beat it and loved it, but haven't been back. I remember it having a very weird 2.5D style. Might dig into N64 emulation sometime soon, I'll definitely hit that one up.

I think it does. It's got a little bit of that pre-rendered look, but it's still a very unique game.

77) Ys: Memories of Celceta (VITA) (7.5) (9/4) (~25 hours?)
78) Skate or Die 2: The Search for Double Trouble (NES) (5.0) (9/7) (~2 hours)
79) 1943: The Battle for Midway (NES) (7.0) (9/9) (~2.5 hours)
1943, thy name is brutal. It starts easily enough, but maaaaan it gets intense. But it's that lass boss gauntlet in Stage 24 that gets you. It's like the jump from Super Macho Man to Mike Tyson.
I also discovered looking at a longplay that I probably should have used a turbo controller. Would have made things a lot easier, both game-wise and on my hands...

HELP ME MARINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Mischief Makers and still think it holds up, Even though the secret gold diamonds can be super cryptic to find. The only gripe truly have with the game is how dashing works with the n64 controller. I guess they thought that since no one uses the dpad for any game, that they would make up for it and break your fingers like nobodies business.

I used the C-buttons for dashing in most cases.

My problem was that the c buttons couldn't get you to certain platforms or dodge certain enemies. They night be able to, but I couldn't mash that well. Mashing has never been my forte in games.

Re: Games Beaten 2017
I can see that. I remember some places being an issue at times. I'd have to adjust my strategy occasionally to do dashes properly.

81) Arkista's Ring (NES) (6.0) (9/9) (~1 hour)
82) Bad Dudes (NES) (4.0) (9/9) (~45 minutes)
I know this is likely blasphemy, but I don't care for Tower of Doom at all. The fighting feels stiff and laggy to me, and doesn't really have any flow. I'll take King of Dragons or Knights of the Round any day over this. And maybe I'm just playing it wrong, or not using the wrong class, or whatever. Some of y'all might have to elucidate me on the finer points of combat in this one.
Arkista's Ring is kinda interesting. I can't say that it's a hugely substantial piece of software, but it is fun in it's own quaint way. It combines perhaps Gauntlet with Adventures of Lolo, with more emphasis on the Gauntlet part. It also starts looping after stage 32, so I consider it beaten at this point. I was surprised how long I stuck with this one, definitely an overlooked game on NES.
Whee, NES ports! Bad Dudes sticks pretty close to the arcade game, but it's very choppy, with some really questionable hit detection. It's a'ight, I guess. Not the best game in the world, but I've played worse. Double Dragon beats the pants off of it, though.
Also, apparently the secret to the boss run in Stage 7 is to hang on to those nunchaku if you can (which means a really good run through the rest of the stage). It makes things so much easier!

Re: Games Beaten 2017
Shadow over Mysata is better in every way. Give that one a shot. I recently played through both games with my children. (My six year old son spammed the attack button as the dwarf warrior, and my eight year old daughter spammed magic missiles as the mistresss of magic. I was the cleric.) Both games were fun, but I agree with your criticisms of the first. It is certainly more fun with more players, but I think single player would be a slog.
