I feel as if I "finish" sports games and "beat" other genres. Beating Blades of Steel is nothing like beating SMB3 in my eyes for some reason, and don't want to make it seem like I am just here to rack up more games.

If you take a team in a video game through a full season, compete successfully in a tournament series, and bring home a championship of some kind, then you have successfully beaten the game because you have reached the end of legitimate play.

Yup. I consider sports games "beaten" when those conditions are met.

Atari/Intellivision/Tandy/etc (ie: games without "endings") games are "beaten" when the games starts looping.

I dont know, Sports games have pretty defining ends, I mean there's a reason why they incorporate championships.

Hehe, sure. Sorry I haven't been. I was for awhile but I wasn't sure if people were actually reading them. I just finished Deadpool, so here we go!

1-25
1. Liberation Maiden (3DS) - 1/6
2. Dead Space (360) - 1/11
3. Anarchy Reigns (360) - 1/13
4. Dead Space 2 (360) - 1/17
5. Dead Space 2: Severed DLC (360) - 1/17
6. DmC Devil May Cry (360) - 1/22
7. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PS3) - 2/5
8. CoD of Duty (Web) - 2/7
9. Dragon's Dogma (360) - 2/12
10. Medal of Honor: Warfighter (360) - 2/13
11. Dead Space 3 (360) - 2/18
12. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (360) - 3/5
13. Sonic the Fighters (XBLA) - 3/10
14. Tomb Raider (360) - 3/12
15. Ridiculous Fishing (iOS) - 3/17
16. Bioshock Infinite (Steam) - 4/7
17. Trials Evolution (XBLA) - 4/9
18. Bit.Trip Presents... Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien (XBLA) - 4/15
19. Injustice: Gods Among Us (360) - 4/16
20. BattleBlock Theater (XBLA) - 4/21
21. Guacamelee! (Vita) - 4/21
22. Surgeon Simulator 2013 (Steam) - 5/3
23. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (XBLA) - 5/4
24. Thomas Was Alone (Vita) - 5/11
25. The Starship Damrey (3DS) - 5/19
26. Stuntman: Ignition (360) - 5/22
27. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (360) - 5/26
28. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (Steam) - 5/31
29. Resident Evil: Revelations (360) - 6/3
30. Marvel Heroes (Steam) - 6/8
31. The Last Of Us (PS3) - 6/19
32. Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara (XBLA) - 6/23
33. Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom (XBLA) - 6/23
34. Deadpool (360) - 6/27

While playing through Deadpool I couldn't help but compare it to Suda51 games like Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned. There isn't one thing about the game that I can really pinpoint as my favorite, yet it all comes together as a really enjoyable experience.

Combat is pretty basic, but various weapons and skills you gradually unlock adds more variety. Level design is linear and fairly straightforward, but the environments are detailed and looked great. The writing was hilarious and had me laughing out loud multiple times (being a Deadpool fan helps here).

The camera was pretty clunky sometimes, though, and the fact that counter and dodge share a button caused some frustrating situations.

Overall it's a pretty average game, but it has a lot of character and style. I enjoyed it a lot, and I think anyone that enjoys either the Marvel universe or Suda51 games would really like it. I happen to be a fan of both, so I had a great time.

I really want to play this. It feels like another one of those underrated games that I'll love, kind of like Lollipop Chainsaw was

Finished the first of the three Academy story modes for Shinovi Versus, not sure if I want to keep playing this game. I had designs on finishing all three story modes and going for Platinum as I can easily put hours into an old school beat 'em up, but I'm not sure anymore. Shinovi Versus is one of those games that gets less and less fun the more you play it (a sentiment I also had about the last game I updated the thread with which was Dokuro). For one thing, it's EXTREMELY repetitive even by beat 'em up standards. Every single level is button mash through cannon fodder, fight one of the main characters, stage ends. Same formula every single goddamn level. The enemies never get smarter or more interesting, they just get cheaper when you're near the end of the story mode (ridiculous amounts of health, no flinching from your attacks, greater numbers, etc.).

The boss fights all follow the same formula. You bring one of these cheap bitches near death, they transform and get all their health back, which is annoying. Every battle is basically you trying not to get caught in one of their aggravating infinite attack chains where they basically just keep hitting you and juggling you over and over with no chance of recovery until you're dead, while waiting for your super bar to fill up so you can spam your super moves. Also annoying is that of the three elements that you can level up only one is worth a damn, which is shadow, since it's the only one that actually does any freaking damage in this game. Otherwise, you're chipping away at health bars all day

That's the game in a nutshell. Academy story mode is annoying as it's tons and tons and tons of dialog in typical Japanese game fashion. Am I playing a beat 'em up or Metal Gear Solid? Shut the fuck up already! A beat 'em up doesn't need this much damn story, especially in a game that is clearly not meant to be taken seriously!

Also, the game's load times are ridiculous, particularly when you have to sit through it four times as the game loads up more and more stupid story segments. If loads times are still a thing next gen, I'm not buying a PS4 or an Xbox One. Seriously, it's 2013. This shit needs to stop.

Ugh, really down on this game now. It was fun at first, but it wears out its welcome quick. You even get numb to the T&A after a while. It's just there to make you forget how shallow, repetitive, and cheap the game is. Now that I've put more time into the game, there's not much to it. I could have designed Shinovi Versus in an hour. Any idiot could have, that's how shallow it is. So there's my little rant, maybe I'll like the game again at some point but right now I'm serious considering moving on to Muramasa Rebirth

Games Beaten: 2012 2011 2010

I wrote about Aliens: Colonial Marines here. It sucks, but I am glad I played it anyway.

In anticipation on DDP Saidaioujou arriving soon, I threw in DDP Resurrection and managed to knock the rust off with a 1cc through novice mode (Type A/Strong). I didn't get a great score, but still was happy to take it down with some stock in reserve. This game has probably become my all time favorite shmup.
noiseredux wrote:Boxing was a 2-player staple of my 2600 youth. The single player mode AI is a dick though. I was only able to beat him by hiding in a corner and mashing every time he moved slightly.
You inspired me to play this and...wow, I beat the computer handily every time. In fact, I decided to go for the challenge of a KO, which I got on my third try. Protip: don't stay in the corner and time your up down movement with your button presses.

In any case, I hope you watched the awesome promo video you unlocked for beating it. It is pretty fucking sweet.
