I bought Mega Man Zero Collection from Gamestop the other day. My first purchase there in years. I went ahead and signed for the power card or whatever it is, in case I buy more DS games in the future.

I would NEVER buy a disc game from them. In my experience during the PS2 era, all their discs are scratched beyond belief from 7 year olds handling them, and their new games aren't sealed. So I would only buy DS and 3DS games at this point. And even those, they sticker up the carts.

Blu-ray games are pretty hard to scratch. I buy PS3 there all the time. Actually I have built up a really good reputation there and they are awesome to me. They will always pull the best case for me and will call and search things down for me. Anytime I want one of the store displays they save them for me and even don't mind my dumpster diving. I am so lucky to have very cool people working at the one around me.

I stay away from Wii games for the most part because they are often beat but PS3 rarely require more than a wipe off with a soft tissue. Oh yeah, ask them if they have any sealed copies of the new games. Often times they have them in a drawer or elsewhere. They do not open them all.

I used to hate Gamestop and everything they stood for. I am no longer like this. I have saved tons with coupons and discounts. They even went as far one time to give me a free 1 year warranty on a used console just because I shop there all the time. I think it comes down to the individual employees. I found a store with a great team. they often know about games I do not expect them to including retro. I have had great conversations with them and they often seek my opinion. One time they even saved a game for me just because they thought I would want it LOL. Heck they were right!

you would think I work there!! LOL. (never worked for Gamestop) :D

Good deal. I still think their prices are bad for the most part, unless it's some kind of promotion. Right now GS sells New Super Mairo Bros for $32 used, and Amazon sells it for $25 new. That's just one example. It's why years ago I decided to do my game shopping online only, because I can be more picky.

About the best way to hit them is to look for the harder to find games. Very rarely do their prices go upwards(except in cases like Xenoblade :P). Actually went through and book marked all the rarer psp and ds games the other day now I'm just watching for them to pop up at a nearby store using the pick up at store option. To bad you can't reserve more then one at a time but at least you can see if they have any in there inventory.

I grabbed Godzilla for the Wii for 4 backs a while back I have gotten many rare games for cheap there in the past. Rule of Rose for 17 bucks anyone!!

Also, there price on used PS3 are really good especially when combined with the ten percent off!

Mini rant about GameStop:
I stopped in to one on the way home from work to get the game, I can see 5 or more copies of the ps3 version on the shelf. I wait forever since they only have 1 person working and finally get to the counter. He asks me if I pre-ordered it, which I replied no. He checks his computer and tells me he only has enough to fill pre orders. I leave frustrated, since this isnt the first time this happened to me. What kind of business model is it to only order the exact amount of games that were pre ordered? Do they not think that people might want to buy a game on a whim? No worries, target had me covered, and all was well.
This happened to me recently, too. I went to my local Game Stop to pick up DKC Tropical Freeze the day it came out. The one guy working (alone) there asked me if I pre-ordered it. When I said no, he told me he didn't have a copy to sell me. He told me they got 3 pre-orders for the game, and he was sent 4 copies. I just shook my head and said, "Major retailer..." to which he kinda just shrugged with a :? face and said, "I know." So I went to Wal Mart and bought it.
Seriously... What the hell? They're a major VIDEO GAME retailer and they don't wanna stock games on the day they're released? I don't understand. The only reason I can think of is because they want to force you to pre-order games. This happens, so next game you think, "Well, I better pre-order it or I wont be able to get a copy!" I'm not buying into that bullshit. I went to Wal Mart the following day and they had like 5-10 copies in stock. I'm willing to bet if I went to Target, K-Mart or Best Buy, they would also have it in stock. I don't understand why if Wal Mart could have a stock of it, why a major retailer dedicated solely to selling video games cannot.

"Oh, c'mon, Zig! It's not because they wanna force you to pre-order games!" Oh really? Then why when I'm in there and I hear an employee answer the phone they're like, "Hello, GameStop, where you can pre-order games." OK, that's not an exact quote. But I swear I've heard them answer the phone with a rehearsed speech before and mention being able to pre-order games.

When I worked there over a decade ago, that was their MO. Actually, it was worse sometimes. I remember specifically with State of Emergency came out we had 50 preorders and 40 copies came in. When we hit up our District Manager about it, his response was "They are in the store, sell them something else."

Proof that Game Stop actually sucks. They SUCK, and it's a fact, not just some random internet guy's opinion.

Personally, I have never had this happen to me. Most of the time they have a stack of 15 or so copies of a game behind the counter on launch day for each console. I had a buddy who per-ordered the MW2 Hardened Edition months before hand and they said they didn't get enough. If I had this happen I'd probably tear the guy behind the counter a new one.

Yes, because it would be the fault of the regular employee, not the manager or suppliers up the chain.
