Region switch

Post by BoNg420 »

Just got a few questions.
First I need a link to a goog tutorial, good pics would help.

2nd do I have to do a 50/60hz switch? Is that only for PAL systems? Do i need to do this to NTSC or NTSC-J systems to play pal imports?

I know the region switch is kind of pointless, but my friend who is mailing me his 2 saturns wants it done, but I want to do things right.

well the internal one seems better. Cuz I am modding 2 white saturns and 1 derby "skeleton" and the internal switch would be better.

well i did this today man it was a bitch, dont use their 5v and ground in the tutorial, they didnt work on my US saturn.

I had to get different power
for example say these are the 4 posts the PSU plugs into

1 2 3 4

my modchip is soldered to 3
for my 5v I soldered to the base of pole 4 and for my ground soldered to the base of pole 1.

then it worked(3rd time completely taking system apart.)

yea weee
thank god

anyhow so for this switchless mod
power on it thinks it jap, throw your US game in, says system isnt suitable for this disc. press reset and hold for a few seconds, boots up your US game. Still messing with it, seems like i have to power off/on to get back to a jap system, but seeems like holding the reset button longer switches regions. Testing this bad boy a little more, then its going on ebay.

the 50/60hz switch is only needed to make it run pal games properly, but it is dead easy to do, so if you are going to do the full redion switch you might as well do it as well for completeness.

I found a very good switch solution but i dont have a pic programmer capable of blowing the correct pic. the instructions are at http://seb.riot.org/saturnmod/ which does the region mod and speed switch. all this via the reset button and no external modification. It changes the power led to show you what it is doing. It seems very good, if anyone can flash a PIC16F630 please let me know, I have the code from him, just need it on a chip, and i am sure there would be quite a few other interested parties.
