Final Fantasy II on Chuck!

Post by Gamerforlife »

I love this show. Where else will you see someone hold up an SNES cartridge of FF II and ask a gorgeous, femme fatale blond spy to play it with him?

:? Soooo... did Sarah get to play as Rosa or Rydia?

btw, it's been a while since I played FF2 on SNES. It does allow multiplayer during battles, right? Or am I misremembering this...

Don't know, never played it. I started the FF series with FF3.

Chuck really is the most "in touch" show I've seen on tv when it comes to geek and nerd culture and I really think racketboy members would appreciate all of the gaming references, especially since a lot of them are retro. I've seen references to kill screens, duck hunt, Guitar Hero, Tron, Grand Theft Auto and this week Chuck actually pulled out his old SNES to play FFII

There's a TON of pop culture references on the show too, some of which go right over my head. References to Terminator, X-Men, Miyazaki movies, Chips, Oldboy, James Bond,Y:The Last Man, Smallville,Big Trouble in Little China, pro wrestling, Firefly and tons and tons of other stuff. The makers of the show are clearly pop culture geeks of the highest order

hmm, then maybe it was in FF5 or FF3/6. I'm pretty sure one/some/all of the SNES/SFC Final Fantasies allowed the ability to plug in a second controller and let the second player control another character, but only during battles.

I don't have the ability to test this out now though.

I think FF3/6 did allow that. I'd have to fire up my psx copy of 5 to see if it did.

You could always pass the controller around though...

Got curious about the multiplayer in battles thing so I loaded my Gamecube with Snes9x and a ROM of FF4 (only had a Japanese version handy but it should be the same even with the gimped American version)...

...and yep, my memory didn't fail me. FF2/4 definitely had multiplayer during battles. Go to Config > Control > Multi then press A and a menu will appear where you can select which player can control which character. Always thought that was neat, albeit useless.

You mean YES! HAH

That's probably easier actually...

Still, nice to know it's possible for Sarah and Chuck to play together I suppose.

Final Fantasy Chronicles allows two-players to play on Final Fantasy IV I believe.
