I don't think any console necessarily dies, especially if there is a retro market for the system/games.

A console dies when it doesn't power on anymore.

Yeah, that would probably do it.
I've seen a Game Gear that looks like it suffered a similar horror. I... just couldn't save it  .

Joke's aside , I think a console dies when you can no longer find games/accessories/the console itself in common stores. I also think its dead when games are no longer are released for the system . Ex.. I can go to any store and still find Wii/Wii games, I would still consider it alive for now but if I want Dreamcast games , I will not find it in my local Walmart(most likely).

There will always be communities and hobbyists . There are a community out there that collects LaserDiscs, but I won't call the LaserDisc format a "live" one.

I don't have one but it got me thinking: is the oXbox really dead in the sense that you can't buy a new unit in stores anymore? Technically all units of the Xbox 360 can play a couple hundred oXbox games. Games aren't being made but if you still have a disc or your original unit finally dies out you can just go to any retail place and buy a 360 assuming your game is on the list: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/xbo ... inal-games

Just a random thought.

I don't trust 'em. It doesn't play all games and/or has glitches in some games. Plus, I tried updating a friend's 360 so he could play Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders and it still can't play the game, even though it's on the list.
