With a little more work this could have been great. As is its a frustrating experience.

A strange one but in spite of its flaws is still a compelling experience worth seeking out.

Re: www.classic-games.net
I have really enjoyed your reviews of WURM and Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode.
I mean, I have enjoyed lot of your other reviews as well, but those stick with me.
Top Secret Episode is actually one of my favorite NES games, but most people just write it off as garbage after five minutes. Every single gameplay element is mediocre at best. As you said, the execution was absolutely flawed. But the sheer scope, ambition, and style of the game is just so far out there for the time that I can't help but admire it.
I haven't spent as much time with WURM. I have it, and I played it years ago for about five minutes and thought, "This looks interesting. I'll need to come back to it." And I never did. You've just bumped it up a few notches on my "to play" list. Thanks!

I got the Genesis version in the early 2000s for a few bucks and it's totally awful. I consider it to be the worst game I have on my Genesis. Lmao.
I'm kinda curious to play the NES version. I remember seeing screenshots of it in magazines back in the day and thinking it looked good for a NES game. I'll give it a shot through emulation one of these days.

The Genesis version is pretty close to the arcade, meaning it's awful. The NES version is more of a re-imagining of the game, and in terms of how your character controls it feels a lot more like Double Dragon 2 just with a different set of moves, at least until you bring in the other characters, which handle very differently. The biggest problem with the NES DD3 is that there are some enemies that are just cheap as hell, and you have to be just as cheap fighting back.

A better game than the NES original but still not something that I would recommend.
