Re: Games in the Geometry Wars/Super Stardust mold

Post by retrosportsgamer »

I played both Total Carnage and Smash TV on the Midway Arcade Classics collection - fun games in the mold I was looking for.

I picked up Geometry Wars: Galaxies for the DS (less than $9 brand new) and man, I got nervous when it was asking me to select what the stylus did (optional thankfully) but boy did my left thumb hurt from using the DSi directional pad to move around. I didn't mind shooting with the YXBA buttons at all. Going to try this one on the 3DS with the analog stick later.

This is awesome on the 3DS.

Next up, getting the Wii version and synching up to open the extra 7 levels.

The DSi and Wii sync went well - opened up the bonus seven levels on each, and I need those geoms from medaling in order to finish opening up the remaining planets. Fun add-on.

Really excited for Super Stardust Ultra for PS4 this week.

My online PS4 library is stacked with great twin stick shooters:

Resogun
Geometry Wars: Dimensions
Super Stardust Ultra
PixelJunk Ultimate Shooter Deluxe

The PewPew games on Android are pretty fun Geometry Wars clones. The first game is free and the second (pictured here) is $2 or something. The second game has a neat campaign mode.

One of my favorite little Android titles.

So Geometry Wars Dimensions just released a huge update (now called Dimensions: Evolved) that includes a decreased difficulty on the main campaign (from what i could see, the star restrictions to face bosses are gone) plus a new Ultimate mode and Hardcore mode, more drones and more new enemies. That's a big content patch.

Tachyon Project is out for PS4 today. This looks right in the wheelhouse - hoping it's not more than $14.99.
