PDF: Nintendo Power #5 – Jan/Feb 1989

magazines-header.jpg

I’m getting back into the whole magazine thing again and this time I have number 5 of the ultimate fanboy mag, Nintendo Power. This time around, we are welcomed by a cover story of Ninja Gaiden. I hope he doesn’t kill me for pointing this out, but it looks like the Ninja from Ask A Ninja was a consultant for Nintendo many years back.

Anyway, this issue is filled with a handful of interesting tidbits including…

  • Zelda II Guide With Map (page 8)
  • 1989 CES Coverage (page 15)
  • The Power Glove revealed (page 19)
  • Ninja Gaiden guide (page 20)
  • Adventure Island guide (page 31)
  • Strider poster (page 36)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (not the Arcade game) guide (page 52)
  • And lots of other recurring features from Nintendo Power

If you find something especially interesting in this issue, please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

This issue was originally scanned by the good folks at RetroMags. Keep up the great work!

Wow, that takes me back! That’s the first issue of Nintendo Power that I ever received.

I will think of how dorky that dude on the cover looks like every time I get the urge to dress like a ninja! He’s probably some guy they rousted from his cubicle and said “hey, put this costume on!”

Under Ninja Gaiden it says “New hit in Cinema Display”. What is that? Is that a reference to the “cinematic cutscenes” (from wikipedia) The old Nintendo Powers definitely bring back memories though

    Yeah, I noticed that too.
Nowadays, “Cinema Display” means an Apple LCD monitor 🙂

Can you please make #6 issue of NP available for download? I really wanted to beat TMNT back in the day but I remember those maps I used and they could really help out!
