Racketboy Podcast #30 – Henry Lowood on Game Preservation

podcastlogo

Henry Lowood, Ph.D.

Henry Lowood was the leader of the first “Preserving Digital Worlds” group, funded by the U.S. Library of Congress, and is currently involved in “Preserving Digital Worlds II” as well as in the “How They Got Game” project at Stanford University.  He is a well-known advocate for ensuring that future generations have access to the history of video games, and his work as a curator, historian, and archivist has shaped ongoing efforts to preserve hardware and software in the “hardest medium of all” to preserve.  In the interview he discusses how he went from someone with an interest in the history of forestry to a featured speaker on the video game conference circuit, an expert on machinima, and a veteran at navigating the copyright nightmares that accompany the work of digital preservation.

If you find the interview of interest, be sure to check out the panel from the last PAX East featuring Lowood and others discussing preservation and related topics.
