Definitive Fighting Game Versions!

Post by vlame »

The definitive versions of every fighting game ever.

Help me go about this, reply with new games not in this list and sooner or later it will be complete, emulators don't count, only home versions (Excluding AES). Contributions and disputes are very welcome. * means unreleased in any reigon, I used games/discs/collections from all reigons. I think this may be worth a Sticky.

Virtua Fighter 5: Online

What happens with games that have multiple revisions (some years apart), like Dead or Alive 2...does DOA Ultimate count? Or Guilty Gear XX which has I think 5 revisions on the PS2?

I'm not sure of the definitions of any games. im making them compete with closeness to the arcade versions; frames kept, load times, sound, visuals and fixes.

as you can see SF2 has them all spread out, so i guess it will be the same.

A more accurate port of Super Street Fighter II appears on Disc 1 of 1997's Street Fighter Collection, for PSX and Saturn. This version is far more arcade-accurate than the SNES version available on Virtual Console.

The most arcade-accurate versions of all the Tekken games would be on PS2 (including the versions of 1, 2 and 3 that are available on the Tekken 5 disc, although the additions to the original PSX ports might make them the preferable versions).

Cheers for including Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary Ed. I, personally, consider this to be the definitive revision of this classic game, but I suppose the original Saturn port could be consdered the most faithful to the arcade, from a gameplay perspective.

Interesting list, thanks for compiling it.

I'm of the mind that the best version of Samurai Shodown is on the 3DO.

so tekken 5 on ps2 has 123 and 5. ok. so they're all on ps2 then.

that's why i inserted both.

Interesting list, thanks for compiling it.

The list is looking good...now how about the Mortal Kombat and Marvel franchises?

Children of the Atom was probably best on the Playstation. Marvel Superheroes is good on the Saturn but has a bit of loading time and I'm not sure how the Playstation version is. Marvel vs Capcom 1 and 2 are excellent on Dreamcast.

The original Mortal Kombat appears in the premium edition of MK:Deception on PS2 and the Kollector's Edition on the Xbox...although I've only played the Xbox version...are they the same?

Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 appear on the Midway Arcade Treasures volume 2 (Xbox and PS2) although there is a bit of shadow flicker and you can't fight Smoke in MK2 because of the button-mapping iirc. Is the downloadable version of MK2 better on the PS3? Ultimate MK3 is probably best on XBLA.

Sorry for the incompleteness; just trying to help!
