Hey guys what were your favorite RPGS for the Nintendo Entertainment System?
The only one I own and really spent any time with is Star Tropics , so I definitely need to flesh out the collection!

This is so going to turn into an argument over whether Star Tropics and Zelda are RPGs
Re: What were the best RPGS for the NES?
I haven't played the NES version but Dragon Quest/Warrior III is my favorite 8-bit RPG so I recommend it! The other Dragon Quest/Warrior games are worth getting too, with the possible exception of the second one.
I also liked Ultima III.
(Maybe the original Final Fantasy is too obvious? I don't like it as much as Dragon Quest but I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority with that.)

^ I was actually playing that a few days ago.
It's fairly dull and I'm a bit burned out on RPGs so back on the shelf it went.

The cover-art didn't do it for you then?

Destiny of the an Emperor, Little Ninja Brothers, Faria: A World of Mystery and Danger and Uncharted Waters are all enjoyable and pass a lot of people's radar.
Of the action variety you have Crystalis, Faxanadu, Willow, and The Magic of Scheherazade. I perfer the action rpgs on the NES.

I'm partial to Final Fantasy I, even though it has been expanded and refined in later years on other platforms. You start with your party of four, and can stack the skill tree any way you like between fighters and magic users or fighter/magic users. It's cool, because it really does have an effect on your play style throughout the game. The setting is neat, the story isn't too ridiculous, characters have believable motivations. You can grind or not grind setting your own difficulty level accordingly. I don't think any NES collection is complete without FF1.
If you're into action/RPGs (like the original Zelda or Startropics), try Crystalis. Really engaging, one of the NES's better games in general. If you enjoyed Startropics, try the sequel, Startropics 2.
If you're into side-scrolling platformer RPGs, try Castlevania II, Faxanadu or Zelda 2.
If you're into first-person style RPGs, try Shadowgate or Deja Vu
As already mentioned there's Dragon Warrior (1, 4, 3, 2 in order of which ones are worth it, probably too scandalous to suggest an order, whatever, I'm doin' it), and then classics like Willow, Ultima, Legacy of the Wizard....

I think of these more as adventure games, and for first-person RPGs, I recommend Bard's Tale, Wizardry, and Wizardry II. (All three of those games are very, very hard, however.)

It kind of looks like someone photoshopped Luke's face onto She-Ra. With no offence intended to either Luke or She-Ra of course.
