Did the guys making the FF ads know anything?

Post by ZeroAX »

I was browsing youtube and saw the ads for FF 7 and 8.
Did the guys making these ads know anything about the games?

Item number 1:

First of all, evil empire? In FF7? You guys didn't even play the first 30 minutes of the game?

And FF8 an ACTION/ADVENTURE????????????????????

FF9's isn't much better (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TV_OvLgK6_w&feature=related), and doesn't seem to have anything to do with the story, but at least they aren't contradicting basic storyline/gameplay elements.

Seriously people doing the ads, learn the first thing about the games please. Also you've got to love the zero game footage and only FMVs being shown.

I can't listen to them because I'm at school, but I don't think it's so unfair to say that Final Fantasy VII pits you against an evil empire. There are two primary groups of antagonists, Jenova/Sephiroth and Shinra... but Shinra was the entity which created the threat in the first place with its tampering of Jenova's cells and generally placing power over any moral standard.

The story does seem to progressively phase out Shinra as the plot progresses, but they're the catalyst of the whole ordeal... even though Sephiroth is by no means employed by Shinra for the majority of the game, he is the fruit of their ethics, so it seems like a legitimate summary to me ...or they just didn't play the game for more than 30 minutes.

Shinra became a subplot 6 hours into the game. The game goes gaga for Sephiroth immediately.

Of course the commercials were going to be all FMV, those took up most of the budget.

Yeah you could call Shin ra an empire, only it's a giant corporation, and that is what made them much more intimidating villains, and very un cliche villains for RPGs.

Also why hasn't anyone commented on the "action/adventure" part about FF8?

Probably worth mentioning that since they're an advertising company making those commercials, they're only going off of the info Square gave them.

So if they got the story wrong blame Square USA.
