I don't think it is worth the price it is at...but I also want to get one. Not for playing online, I'm more interested in doing rips of games I have. Guess it depends if you have the $100 - 150 to spend.

You can play online with the 56k modem just fine - just as long as the games you want to play still can be played online. I'm told games which use GameSpy (Starlancer) still work, as does Quake. There are private servers for Phantasy Star Online as well.

It is NOT worth the price. At least not for the gaming portion of it's functionality. Only half of the online games even support it. Most of DCs online titles were made with the 56k modem as a priority.

However if you have a vast collection of games that you feel uncomfortable about being unable to keep safe backup copies of, then the BBA may be for you. You could always buy the item, backup your games, and then sell it back and if you make a good auction, you will only lose money on shipping and ebay fees during the whole process. Also, it's very cool using PlanetWeb 3.0 with the BBA. It requires zero configuration and pages load so much faster.

Unfortunately the browser is extremely outdated. It has a lot of trouble decoding modern day web languages without severely screwing up a site's intended layout.

Then here is what you will need to follow in order to backup your games:

After you become comfortable with that process, you can make use of NoLogic's brilliant scripts, which take 90% of the manual work out of the whole process:

http://dumpcast.thekickback.com/forum/v ... c.php?t=47

The Dumpcast guys would really like it if you could fill in some entries for your rips on the forum. You dont have to share the games themselves if you dont want to. Check this out:

http://dumpcast.thekickback.com/forum/index.php?c=2

If you're ripping a game that someone else has already made a thread for, just verify their MD5 numbers with your own, and post in the thread stating whether the numbers match or not. If not, post your numbers. If your game hasnt been posted, feel free to create a thread for it.

The more entries, the better. Someday we hope to have at least the entire USA collection dumped and verified by double checking the MD5s with multiple copies.
