Golf games

Post by dlmvii »

So, I always thought golf games were kind of lame - but I started playing Neo Turf masters on the NGPC, and liked it quite a bit. Then Neo Turf Masters on the Neo Geo, and a little bit of Let's golf on the ipod. Not sure why I like them...I guess they're a good wind down game.

Any recommendations on good golf titles? I know there's Hot Shot Golf, which I've never touched - any stand out titles in that series?

I'm not too sure how much I'd like Tiger Woods, I think more of the arcade type titles are what I'm looking for, and I feel tiger might be a bit too complicated, but I don't know, I've never played them

When it comes to golf games, my favorite series is the Panya series.
I'm pretty sure some of you have heard of them. Also called Super Swing Golf on the Wii, and retitled Albotross 18 as a free online game.
It's got very cute characters, a story mode I only play for some humor, and in my opinion, the best environments out of any golf series.

I'm not a big golf gamer myself, but I know that my brother really enjoyed Outlaw Golf on his XBox. Apparently it was also released for Windows and Gamecube.

Kirby's Dream Course is by far my favorite golf(-ish) game. Mario Golf is also very good.

I've also always had a soft spot for Pebble Beach Golf Links (GEN/SNES), but I'll be the first to admit most of it has to do with the fact that I played it growing up (and broke it when I was like 9, only recently hunting down another copy). Objectively, it probably isn't that great of a game, but I still find it very fun.
I'm known as ZebetiteGlitch or Zeza Von Thantos on other platforms.

Everybody's Golf is awesome.

I used to play PGA Tour '96 and then PGA '98 on PS1 with my friends a lot when I was younger, I used to play the real game with my grandad at the time and was big into golf, not really sure why I stopped going, I had my own clubs and everything. I might get back into it when I'm a little more affluent and have the time if nothing more than to spend a more time with my grandad, hardly ever see him since I went to Uni and got my own place with my fiancée.

Couldn't get into the newer Tiger Wood's games, the control system just isn't right. I prefer the hit bar things (not sure how to describe them) rather than fannying about with an analogue stick or dragging a mouse forward and back, way too inaccurate. Haven't tried the Wii versions though, I understand they're pretty good. I think I'll wait for the next iteration which will inevitably have better motion plus controls (if it hasn't already).

Funny you'd bring this topic up - I was thinking of doing the same. As I was watching the Masters I thought "Gee, I'd like to try this course in a game." Apparently, they haven't licensed it - the best I can do it seems is a fan made PC download for old versions of PGA Tour/Tiger Woods games. Like Niode, I prefer the older style controls - and though the Mario golf games are ok, they really are a bit cutsey for my taste...

I've always enjoyed "Golf Magazine Presents 36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples" (32x), some of the older PGA Tour/Tiger Woods games (PS1 era), the Hot Shots golf games (I prefer these over Mario), and a few forgotten games I used to play on the C64.

Can anyone recommend a more pro-style golf game from the past decade for consoles and with more "traditional" controls? I picked up Tiger Woods 09 and while nice looking, really don't like the analog control.
