Former Tom Clancy tactical game devs are said to be working on Ground Branch. Looks interesting, but I doubt it'll have the scope of Arma. Still, the more the merrier!

It is finished.

The hardest FPS I've ever played is completed!

I was halfway through the final mission on my latest post, but I think a couple of things contributed to this victory.

- Keeping everyone on the team alive and in green-square health at every checkpoint, also reloading each new checkpoint to ensure health was at optimal levels.

- Making a few switches at the mid-point supply drop. Equipped myself and Brown with an MR-C (far better accuracy and clip capacity than the SCAR) and gave Kirkland and Allen the sniper rifles.

The final battle took place at the US Embassy building, with a large traffic circle nearby. Tons of machine gun emplacements and even a few snipers for flavor. What I did was run across straight to the middle of the circle, got under some cover, then dispatched my team to take out all the threats I couldn't see. I also had a ZEUS-MPAR to take out about 4-5 other threats by blowing up a nearby truck. At this point, I was at red-square health, and another shot or two would have probably ended it. I was expecting my team to be wiped out, but to my surprise, like the rest of the missions up to this point, they were NOT. They lived, AND if I had let them, they would have probably finished the entire mission for me. I kept them outside and I went upstairs to find Ontiveros dead. I couldn't believe the final objective, "Get To Extraction". A slight plot twist as to who was really behind this event at the end, and "Developed by GRIN" .

I really liked the game, but I did not care for the dumb squad AI, the forced checkpoints that were very uneven, hidden enemies everywhere, and just some other general annoyances. The last mission was a cakewalk. The toughest missions for me were #4 and #10. I'm just glad that this old hardened veteran still has some fight left, and a special thanks to Exhuminator for his tireless support and efforts in encouragement.

I'll be doing more FPS soon, but for now back to Saints Row!

 Wow man everything you described that went right for you, went absolutely wrong for me. Amazing how different our experiences were with the final mission. I spent so long being squeezed behind sandbag barriers right outside the embassy trying to find a safe path into the damn building, while my partner AI just kept getting themselves sniped to death or shredded into red paste by all the machine gun nests. I'm glad the dice rolled in your favor though and you were able to push through with minimal difficulty.

If 1 or 2 of them died, I probably would have been dead. I was at red health, took a few hits running to the middle as well as peeking out to blow up that truck which I'm sure helped my teammates survive. Also remember that for much of the game I was just about by myself because either they died too much or I just didn't trust them enough. When I needed them, they pulled through.

It will be a chapter fondly remembered in the annals of my FPS history.

Go back several pages...

@caster, did you beat Black? That last level is absolutely brutal. You're right, the game looks great.

Has anyone ever played Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter? Just picked it up on PS2. Looks awesome & the flying sequences look like something out of a Tie Fighter game.

A nice one from that time for sure, for consoles. I don't recall beating it though because it seemed quite long, but overall I definitely have fond memories of it.

Finished the latest Wolfenstein, it was a nice little diversion, but the final part of the game didn't hold my interest that much.

played another 45 mins or so of Half-Life 2 last night. Finally finished Highway 17. I've realized something about HL2... it's one of my favorite games of all time, which is why I never play it. That sounds weird right? But I love it so much, that I almost never want it to end. So I tend to play like an hour of it every few months. I've been doing this for nearly 2 years. I think that everything about the game is brilliant - yet every time I load it up, I feel this weird ping that I'm getting closer to it being over.

Welcome to my world. I feel this way about so many unfinished game series and it tears me apart. I am glad you enjoy it though.

All the talk about GRAW in this thread in the last couple of months has me interested, but I've never been into Tactical Shooters.

But now both Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon are available via the GOG sale....

Also, the Ghost Recon plot is eerily similar to recent events.
