The MONTH OF HORROR 3: Season of the Dream Warriors

by dsheinem Sat Sep 22, 2012 8:54 am

I like to watch a lot of horror movies, read some horror fiction, and play a lot of horror-themed games every October. In 2011 and 2010 we had two threads which featured a nice amount of involvement from people equally interested in the macabre.

So, with about a week to go until the month of horror begins, I thought I'd again get the ball rolling on this year's edition so that people can start making some plans and maybe pick up that horror game or two they've been wanting to try...

Here's what I am hoping to play all or some of during October this year:

Crush series- Together Retro title - various platforms
Maniac Mansion - Together Retro title - PC
Resident Evil Revelations - 3DS
Dementium II - NDS
Costume Quest - PC
Alan Wake - PC
Hose of the Dead 4 - PS3

and maybe:
Cursed Mountain - Wii
Dark Seed - PC
Darkstalkers trilogy - MAME
Darksiders - 360

So what about you? Any horror gaming plans for next month?

If you are still looking for a game, be sure to consult both of those previous year threads as well as JT's list of free Halloween-themed games here: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=33439

Also, I hope noise does another horror movie thread this year.

I have never given Soul Reaver a chance, so that on the Dreamcast and while I have the DC set up I'll also revisit Nightmare Creatures II.

Twisted Metal Black (PS2) is also on my list for October. It's been way too long since I completed every character in story mode.

I'm playing this games:
-Carrier (Dreamcast)
-Echo Night: Beyond (PS2)
-Penumbra Trilogy (PC)
-Rise Of Nightmares (360 and it's a Kinect horror game that looks like Hostel + a Hammer horror film where you move and turn around by putting a foot in front of you while turning your torso to turn left and right. So it's basically a very gory hokey pokey with an awesome combat system)
-Haunt (360 and it's yet another horror game but this one is more kid friendly and Tim Schafer voices the main ghost. Also, the guys that made Parappa The Rapper developed this)
-Limbo (360)
-Dead Island (PC)

And I'm probably recording a "Lets play" of this games:
-Phantasmagoria
-Harvester
-I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream

This my favorite time of the year for sure. I have been really getting ready for this also. Well here goes my list.

Zombie Revenge - Naomi (bought and saved just for this October)

Splatter House 3 - Genesis

Nightmare Creatures 2 - Dreamcast

House of the Dead Overkill - Wii

If I have the time I may also do a quick run of Resident Evil 2, and maybe try to track down a copy of Castlevania Bloodlines and give my Genesis some more love.

I loved those games. The House Of The Dead: Overkill is one of the funniest videogames I've played this generation.

Nightmare Creatures 2 is pretty generic but it's also very fun to play.

I loved the first one to death. I had the same thoughts as you with having only played 10 minutes of the second one my self. I just figured it was actually time to try to play it.

What little I did play didn't feel the same either.
