Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Pretty epic movie, and the history lover in me enjoyed it as well. A bit gory but I would watch it again.

Robot & Frank

I don't know how, but somehow, Frank Langella makes this movie about an ex-jewel thief and a robot look compelling.

Man, this movie kicked ass. Miles ahead of any wire-fu martial arts movie. I do think it's always a bit disrespectful when they take such great creative liberties with real-world source material, but they gotta sell tickets somehow and on the whole it definitely made the movie better.

+1.

For the longest time, Jet Li's Fist of Legend was the 'bar' for Martial Arts films, for me. After watching Ip Man, the bar has been raised. Considerably. I <3 Donnie Yen.
I guess I have to see this. I've always rated things compared to the Drunken Master or anything made by Bruce Lee.

I'm definitely more of a Shaw Brothers/Dragon Dynasty man myself.

You are going to love it. It's actually an incredible film.

It is my favorite film of the year. It executes everything perfectly. I also believe that every movie here on out should have a minimum of at least one Mad Dog. Waiting for the domestic release on blu-ray has me chomping at the bit.

Go check out the trailer for Judge Dredd and tell me if anything looks familiar. Oh! And watch this.

Spellbound (1945) – I am not ultimately sure where I stand on this Hitchcock film, as there are as many excellent components (the Dali-curated dream sequence, the focus on psychoanalysis, the intricate plot) as there are middling aspects (the pacing, the less-than-stellar performances by Bergman and Peck). I thought that the film was trying to be something just a little grander and cutting-edge than it actually was (this is some of Hitch’s most by-the-numbers cinematography) and I thought that he really failed to get the best out of everyone involved, especially compared to some of his other films. My biggest complaint is that the crucial romance that drives the narrative is entirely unconvincing from the get go, forcing much of the first half of the film to try and make up character development with rapid plot advancement, and it falls short for me. It is still a film worth seeing for fans of Hitch, Dali, or films based around psychology – but it isn’t in the upper echelon of Hitchcock’s films.
Grade: 3.5/5

Children of the Corn (1984) - This film has a good example of a plot that gets worse as it goes on, as the strongest scenes unquestionably occur in the first 20 minutes or so. It is also a good example of a film that can put a viewer off to watching any/all of the sequels, which it has for me. The two children who play Malachi and Isaac give good performances and the effects are surprisingly good for the time and budget (and hold up relatively well), but the plot is predictable, plodding nonsense and the two leads are almost unwatchable (despite being fairly respectable actors). This gets an extra half star since I have lived much of my life around cornfields, but I am being generous.

You were quite generous on this one. The only thing memorable about Children of the Corn is the ongoing children's chant of "Chappa Cha! Ahhhh-Ha!"
