I heard the NES was modeled after VCRs to try and trick unsuspecting consumers. As ugly as the NES might have been, there's no denying it's a cultural icon. The Famicom, to me, isn't all that pretty as well - but it definitely has a "cool" factor about it. My only gripe about the Famicom is how short the controller cords are, yikes.emwearz wrote:The NES was not meant to look like a Videogame console though, it was part of there marketing in the West, unless I am mistaken it was modeled after top loading VHS players.BoringSupreez wrote:^^^ That's a Famicom? I'd never seen one before. I must say, it looks a lot better than the NES.
The wired controllers and the cable coming out of the side of the controller always bugged me about the Famicom.

In North America, while the game is available uncensored on the GameCube and Xbox, all naked breasts are covered in the PlayStation 2 version.

Here's the entire lot
Everything is completely CIB manuals maps trays it's all there.
Probably the prize of the lot. This thing is minty fresh.
The final fantasy's are in really good shape too.
Same can be said for Illusion of Gaia, though there is a nice scratch on the front of the box, looks like a feral cat attacked it. Still, the manual and map for Illusion look like they've never been touched.
I originally went to this resale shop because the guy posted ads for the FF games as well as Secret of Mana on Craigslist. When I got there he pulled out a stack of about 10 more CIB games. Most I was iffy on...the ones I remember are Lemmings, Lagoon, Some card/RPG game that started with an A...he did have a CIB Zelda II for NES (gray cart nintendo classics version) but I passed on all of those.
So anyway here's what I paid:
Secret Of Mana: $30
Final Fantasy II: $21
Final Fantasy III: $24
Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse: (this one looks like it was opened but never played) $12
Illusion Of Gaia: $15
Y's III: Wanderer's From Y's: $9 (I've heard of the series but have never played anything from it, this looks kind of like a castlevania style game? For 9 bucks I decided it might be worth checking out)
I want that FF3 CIB so bad. I've had no luck on getting one without paying upwards of 100 bucks. Wanna trade it?
Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"

5 bucks a pop... I have a great little honey pot of a shop in town. everything retro is 5.00. Boxed, rare, accessories, common stuff, junk... its all 5 a pop. Makes for fun visits. Same spot i just picked up all the boxed NES games.

^^^ I'm not even going to ask what you paid/traded to get that lot - nice haul though.

Mattel Football 1977 Model - $5.00 / 2000 Model - $2.00
I couldn't believe my luck! I bought both of these at the swap meet at different stalls. Both were not from video game sellers, the reason at such a great price. The 1977 model had a 9 volt battery dated from 2007 that still had power. Surprised the battery didn't leak after sitting that long.
So which one is better? I'll take the original with the brighter LED lights, the remake "Classic" has a dim red LCD display. I reviewed both and included information on emulated versions.
Portable and Transportable Game System Reference Guide

There is so much hidden treasures at the Swap Meet! I also saw an old iMac CRT for ten bucks. I can't believe I passed it up, already own two of them. Wife would have killed me if I brought another orphan home. I did talk to the seller, enlightening him that OSX 10.4 can work on it. I convinced him to hang on to it as a spare online browser. Weird that it didn't have a VGA output, must be a first generation slot loader.
