A Thread focused on the Wii and Gamecube. There are Mods, Repairs and reviews of various games both the common and obscure. My main interest is finding games and hardware that are obscure as well as modding to play a game in a new way. Articles include using a Laser Assembly Replacement, PS2 Arcade Stick on the Wii, finding uncommon games including Imports and modding a Wiimote for a direct hookup of a NES Gamepad.

There are many hidden gems on the Wii undiscovered by many gamers who ignore it. One of the features that the Wii has as an advantage over the PS3 and 360 is the Motion Sensor Controls. It is available on every single console out of the box. A double edged sword, sometimes too much motion shake required in games. On the plus, ALL FPS and Light Gun Wii games are supported for the instant aiming, so much quicker and accurate versus trying to point with an analog stick. Sony's Move and Microsoft's Kinect had to play catch up in this area of gameplay. The Wii's main weakness is that more games should allow the Classic Control option to give a gamer the choice how to play.



My daughter gave me her Wii and preferred a NES and some games for her room. I told her to try the NES in the front room just to be sure, its a lot different from the Wii. She already did and is determined to get her own. Picked up a spare NES Top Loader console for her room.

Now I'm adamant at playing a game on the original console, but also realize some sensibility. I told her there are NES emulators for the Wii, pointing out the Dreamcast also has NES roms all convenient on a CDR. Nope, she wants to play the NES games with not the dogbone but the original rectangle controller! Okay, I have Retro influenced my twenty year old daughter.



I told her there are adaptors to allow the NES controller to work on the Wii, I could even mod one to work on the Dreamcast. Nope, she wants Teenage Ninja Turtles, Chiller, Monster Party, Adams Family, Bart Space Mutants and Mario in the grey carts. Wait a minute, how did she even know some of the old titles? I just found out I have my own NES expert right in the house! I mean Chiller and Monster Party? I played Chiller in Mame, amazed the knowledge my daughter has of the older then she is system. Brings a tear to the eye of a proud parent.

So now I am "stuck" with the Wii. I hate motion controls, that Carnival Games endlessly advertised in Gamestop just makes me want to vomit. Especially when I hear its on the 360 as well. I almost bought a XBox just for the Steel Battalion controllers, now the new 360 mech game will require one to act like a dancing Mime. Apologies to the quiet actors.

A dedicated PS2 gamer finally trying a current console
No longer current with the Nintendo WiiU console released. Okay, meanwhile what to do with this Wii. I do need to pick up some Component cables. Well, noise did mention a very good game that I can no longer play on the HD CRT with the Dreamcast. HOUSE OF THE DEAD! Oooooh Yeah! Gamestop has it used for twenty bucks, but its new at Walmart for the same price! But only thru the website, is the "Dead" label too violent to display along with all the FPS in the store?

Maybe I should cover the Wii with a NES Skin to disguise the Wii?



Okay so I'll gain by utilizing the Wii for Light Gun games, maybe even pick up some a new games that are not available on my PS2. No, I will not waste my money on temporary downloads. Dead Space looks like another great Lightgun game with FPS capabilities. Sin and Punishment for an updated REZ fix. Geometry Wars too, maybe even adapt my PS2 Twin Shock to get the updated Robotron feel. Okay now I'm starting to get excited might even pick up that dumb Carnival Games, really, its only for the kids.

Should I just buy just New Wii games? Do used Wii games give problems with online authentication to use ALL the game features?

Strange how things turn around. noise owns a PS3 and now I own a Wii.

Don't get too excited about light gun games on the Wii. All suffer from the poor tracking of the Wii remote, and if you've played with a proper light gun before, you're going to be disappointed.

There is no difference between used and new Wii games in terms of online access. Just friend codes, and hoping that third parties don't take down the servers in the near future as the Wii approaches end of life.

Really, the tracking is bad? I tried the menu already, the cursor is very responsive moving around the screen. Since the light bar is utilized, I can't picture a dark screen game being less responsive.

As with everything, take blanket statements with a grain of salt.

It depends. Some games have sloppy tracking. Others, like the Metroid Prime games, have excellent tracking. Read reviews and, of course, look at who developed the game.

The Wii's weak online service is going to be a real boon to us retro gamers in the future - very little of the Wii's catalog was designed with online in mind as the central feature of the game. So the Wii's library will stay viable long after the servers go dark.

Are you looking for recommendation of good, non-motion sensing games?

None in particular, there are numerous review sites and guides already. However if a game really shines please make a mention with maybe a mini review.

Gaaah, now I have another console orphan to support.

For what it's worth, the Wii has been a real gem. I have had one almost since launch and I'm amazed it hasn't worn out yet with how often I am using it. If you've got to adopt an orphan, the Wii is a pretty good kid to give a home to.

look at it this way too, the Wii looks so much better in a CRT TV than a LCD. the Wii on s-video looks nice.

Just so we're clear, I said *light gun* games specifically, of which Metroid Prime most certainly isn't.

Not trying to blanket the Wii motion controls all in one go. That's really subject matter for a different topic.

My suggestion is to install the Homebrew channel to guarantee the Wii will be still be appealing long after you've exhausted the Wii games that interest you.

I need to crack my Wii open and adjust the disc drive because it's making that clicking "i'm going to fail soon" noise, so these days I use my Wii for emulation and Netflix more than actual Wii games. It still gets plenty of love.

I should probably invest in an NES=>GC adapter...
