With never enough time in the day, I finally went back and completed an older PS2 game simply called ICO. A remarkable huge game made by Fumito Ueda, this game programmer along with Team ICO is the one to watch. If there is a game I would call a work of Art, this is the one.
In playing the game, you are taken in by the huge expansive scenery just like Shadow of Colossus. Both games are made by the same Team Ico programmers. It also reminded me of God of War - God of War 2 which also have great huge scenery that you can really explore. I think it says something about a game when it really can get you immersed in the view. I have found while playing ICO that at times I would ignore completing a task. Instead I would explore a different area, not to try to find any hidden secret doors, but simply to stop rotate the view and look at the vistas. Shadow of the Colossus has the same effect.
Anyone who has played God of War really should look into this old classic, you will be in for a treat. It is one of the non-linear games that offer many surprises by exploring.
If you do play this game all the way through, make sure you let the closing movie run. Unlike a lot of games that give you a wimpy game over, you get not just a video clip but more like a miniature movie. After all the credits are done there is one final interactive game play screen. Its not too long, but does complete a great story.
According to the Wiki entry, Team Ico is working on a PS3 followup called "Project Trico". Now that will be an amazing work of art.
