PS SoundScope?

Post by optmusprimenumber »

I can't seem to find anything about it, just questions without answers. Does anyone know what the "SoundScope" feature included in later model Playstations (1) is?

I'm pretty sure the "SoundScope" feature was the audio visualizer that played when you inserted an audio CD. A Youtube search yielded surprisingly few examples, but I did find this one. Although if I recall correctly, it didn't jump from one visualization to another so erratically unless you were pressing buttons.

No improvement on audio. Soundscope is on the late model grey PSXs.
Just pretty kaleidoscope graphics as in Windows Media Player.
There is a PSX version on disc too, look in the older post.

An older post concerning PSX audio, three pages worth.

Indeed, think a primitive version of the one on modern consoles or if you fire up Media Player on a PC.

Baby Universe
A PS1 disc music player screensaver similar to the grey PlayStation 7000-9000 series Soundscope Rom version. That older console had the coolest built in CD player with the beautiful interactive screensaver.

The disc version a bit different from Soundscope, but still pretty cool. The 7000 series console (the best also having a parallel port) version has the advantage of instant on when a music CD is played.

Baby Universe (ベイビーユニバース) is music video game developed for the PlayStation. This software allows the user to put a music CD into their PlayStation and generate 3D images using the music. It was released in June 1997 in Japan, and October 1998 in the PAL regions.

Baby Universe does not have gameplay as such, as it is a piece of software for art generation using music. However, there are a series of modes called worlds, affording the user varying degrees of control of the artwork. The first world is the 3D Kaleidoscope. The Kaleidoscope is controlled with the D-Pad and shoulder buttons. The shoulder buttons zoom and rotate the Kaleidoscope around its Z-Axis, the up/down directional buttons control the X-Axis and the left/right control the Y-Axis. Player actions can be recorded with the R1 button, and played back.

I think he means it was introduced on disc for PS1, but later incorporated into the BIOS for certain model PS1s.

Oop, apologies. I sometimes label the PS1 grey model as PSX to differentiate from the newer white PSOne model. Even though there was an official DVR PSX PS2 Japan model, PSX was the original naming label for the earlier PS1 grey models.

The Baby Universe is a PS1 Music Player disc.
