What was the last movie you've seen?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Just semi re-watched twister. Man that movie is really cheesy in some parts...good but dang the explosion effect was one of the cheesiest things i've ever seen(even compared to the cybermen and such from the original doctor who). Still decent though...
Next up forest gump - best thing about this movie marathon on right now on abc just hope I don't doze off again...i accidentally dozed off and missed a few minutes of twister.....

The original BBC miniserial, still holds up pretty well.

Ha, I picked this up last weekend and just finished watching it 10 minutes ago in one sitting. I'd seen it once before on PBS when I was younger.

Watched the AVGN movie last night. It was worth the money, but it wasn't Rolfe's best work. Overall I liked the movie for what it was, but there were a couple of scenes with some "acting" that really took me out of the experience.
I know... how could I care about bad acting in a movie like this, but it's not that. I can stand the bad acting and bad special effects if they're charming enough. What I can't stand is Porno level acting and being able to tell if somebody is trying to not laugh throughout a scene.
Other than that, there was only one other disappointment for me personally. I was hoping he would get decked out like he did in the 100th episode and fight some giant monster or something, but he never did. Not a biggie, just something I would have liked to see.

AVGN Movie
Best thing I could say about it? It feels like a real movie.
Worst thing: The Nerd. I truly believe this film would have been better if James Rolfe was playing himself and not the nerd. The nerd is a boring one dimensional character with a single running gag. He put a lot of effort in this film, and there were some moments I really laughed (mostly with the slapstick humor), but every time the nerd was being "the nerd" I was just bored.
Overall: Compared to normal releases I'd give it a 5/10. Which mind you is a big praise for an indie film. I would say to get some gamer friends together and watch it, but then again there wasn't so much focus on gaming.
Lucky Luke 2009
Taking a comic character who was always defined more by his friends and adversaries rather than any character background of major personality traits, and making a story revolving around him turned out to be interesting.....but not really funny.
It was a better action film than a comedy film, and well that's not the original intention of the comic. Great casting though.
5/10. If anyone cares about European comics (and a comedic French view of America during the wild west days) give it a try, but don't expect anything great.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I watched some super blokey bloke movies for men.
Desert Rats, a WW2 film starring the almighty Richard Burton as a British commander of an Australian regiment, tells the trueish tale of their legendary guerilla war against Rommels Afrika Korps advance in North Africa.
It's more a of a character piece than an action film and Burton gives his character a lot of depth as a man with doubts about his suitability for Command but the whole thing is a bit disjointed and slow paced despite a 88 minute runtime. I liked it but it needed maybe a scene or two more to flesh out some of the other characters and events.
Next up I watched The Hunt for Red October for the first time ever. It's kind of fascinating how these Jack Ryan books have translated to cinema over the years.
Anyway, I thought this film was great and though Connery obviously gives no fucks about trying to adopt a Russian accent (and the film acknowledges this) he does give a nice performance overall. It's just a well acted, well scripted thriller with a bit of military hardware fetishism and political banter thrown in to spice things up.
Aside from a brief bit of Beverly Crusher at the beginning of Red October neither film had a single woman in sight. Bechdel test well and truly failed!
I'm also wondering what kind of kid asked his or her parents for the Hunt for Red October video game for Christmas that year.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
A a warm up for "horror" month, my wife and I watched A Place of One's Own (1945). It is a well-acted, very atmospheric ghost story, and I quite enjoyed it. It is not quite as good as some of the other films in its genre, but: (1) it was very enjoyable; (2) James Mason was spectacular; and (3) Margaret Lockwood was gorgeous. It is also available for streaming on Netflix, and I highly recommend it to anyone with the service who is looking for a "spooky" way to spend an evening.

Limitless the other day and I just finished Good Will Hunting a few hours ago.

A movie starring Ben Affleck AND Tyler Perry? And it looks like a Lifetime murder mystery?
