Racketboy Charitable Contributions at a glance...

Post by NotLuke »

Feel free to move this wherever it should go.

Could someone please list the Year, Recipient, and Total for each of our charity auctions? Thanks.

Used a bit of google-fu - was there an earlier one than 2009?
2009: NACOA & Betty Ford - 527.80 & 527.80 = 1055.60
2010: Make-A-Wish (US & Int'l) - 5,843.50
2011: Alzheimer's Assoc. - 1348.48
2012: Blake (Breetai)'s daughter's trust fund - 1638.50(?)
2013: Jacobs Johnson Foundation - 3260
2014: Able Gamers - 1714
2015: Able Gamers - 1060
2016: Mas - 550.05
2017: AGDQ -> Prevent Cancer found. - 395
2018: AGDQ -> Prevent Cancer found. - 156.39

I think there might have been something in 2008, but it wasn't organized as an official deal. I don't think there was ever a thread. I remember Racketboy sending out an email to all registered forum members asking if anyone wanted to contribute. IIRC, a fellow forum member had an oil burner blow up or something of that caliber. It was around the holidays.

Yup. I also think in that two-week span he was demoted at work, his basement flooded, and his dog exploded.

Thanks Anapan for replying, you helped put something neat in motion.

I don't recall a demotion or dog exploding instead it was a cat whose kidney failed and was being tube fed, but that happened a year later after the act of kindness from this community. The community came together for a new parent with a 6 month kid when the furnace broke a couple days before Christmas. The basement flood was during the summer, but the kindness of this community to a relatively new member at the time is something that my wife and I will never forget.

2019 bump Re: Racketboy Charitable Contributions at a glance

Year! New goal - Better than last year!
Yeah, I'm gonna run a proper auction this year. I weighed the odds that my donations might make more on a public auction, and decided to keep tradition. Doctrine prevails and ritual must be followed. Liturgy :)

Everyone okay with us just forwarding the proceeds to GDQ again? Anyone got any better idea?
I am happy to just follow the rules and setup from previous years, but a community is only as good as the discussions it involves it members with.

Anapan, thanks so much for stepping up and making sure we continue this tradition. I've been super short on time, more so that I usually am, but if you organize an auction this year I have a bunch of great items to donate!
