What are you listening to? [VGM Edition]

I've been listening to the Super Metroid soundtrack lately, thanks to dsheinem's huge unofficial soundtrack torrent.

When you've got 20 minutes to kill, check out virt's killer medley if you haven't, "Crystal Flash":

Epic track on this stage from Radiant Silvergun

Probably my fave track from Final Fantasy XIII. Just gets me so pumped up to fight some battles. I think my favorite gaming tracks tend to be epic, combat oriented music. I guess being a beat'em up/hack n slash fan has something to do with that maybe. I love epic boss tracks too. I love how this track goes from cinematic to electronic around the two minute mark. Nice mix of styles. For all the hate it gets, I do like pointing out the things FF XIII did right

This isn't an actual gaming track, but I've pointed out in another thread how it just sounds like a perfect fit for a boss fight in an rpg

@Gamerforlife: Maybe you'd like this one, a well placed boss theme towards the end of Xenosaga 3, it's pretty weird at a glance but fit really well:

Two themes in FFXIII I liked a lot (yes, I have something good to say for once!...)

Yes I love chants/hymns whatever you want to call this kind of stuff, haha.

Reaching out to catch the sun
To hold it in our hands
Longing for something strong to hide our weakness
Soon the light may disappear
Nothing is meant to last
Yet we believe our world
Searching for happiness
The blue bird flies away

and I need to get around to playing Xenosaga 2 and 3, which you reminded me of with that last post(great track by the way). I beat the first one, but dropped off the series after that. I loved the music and production value. KOS-MOS was awesome. She's definitely my kind of character. Hard not to love badass robots. Plus, that card mini-game was very cool.

Yeah, you should definitely get into the Zone of the Enders series. I consider ZOE 2 a must play. It truly is one of the most epic games ever created. They created the word epic for ZOE 2

Kojima has shown interest in a ZOE 3, but he seems always caught up in MGS stuff and I don't know if the fan support has been enough for him to make a ZOE 3.

FF XIII really did have a great soundtrack, not one of the best, but very good. As the first HD Final Fantasy, I think they delivered on the audio/visual front.

Xenosaga 2 is hit or miss so if you don't get through all of it ... oh well. After one of my friends gave me some game breaking tips I had a lot of fun with it the second time around actually. Xenosaga 3 is a must play for sure though. Most people seemed to have given up on the series by that point and didn't even try that one (had a short print run too and it's kind of expensive), but it was a great game and an epic conclusion to the premature ending of the Xenosaga story (Shion's story was originaly only supposed to be two games. It's a HUGE mess, too ambitious just like Xenogears, but still good stuff to me).

Xenosaga 3 also has a database, basically the Xenosaga Bible within the game that gives you details on absolutely anything you could think of. Summaries on the first two games, character bio's, faction bio's, weapons/mech descriptions, culture/religion/history, everything. So this is another reason why if you don't completely beat 1-2, you can kind of get it summarized here.

I actually played a bit of ZoE2 and liked it a lot, way more than ZoE1 which just had god awful characters. But that definitely seemed fixed from the little I played of ZoE2. The anime and movie were pretty cool too, even if the anime is like all out comedy... lol.

Yeah I think FFXIII's OST was pretty hit or miss for me honestly. The composer was not very experienced with game work at all, think they had mostly worked on anime/TV drama's or something and there IS a huge difference that some composers don't understand, Some of the music was just out of place and didn't always work, but when it was good it was definitely pretty good. Honestly Xenosaga 3's OST had the same issues to me, it wasn't composed by Mitsuda sadly, and the composer just came off like he was composing for an anime instead of a game at times. But it was still pretty good.

Lots of rambling, basically yeah hit up Xenosaga 2-3. Maybe you and I can be the only fans on the board then, cause I'm sure there's hardly anyone else who likes the series here or color me very surprised, I've just gotten used to being a lone fan of them.  ... and as much as I love Xenogears more overall, I think Xenosaga 3 had a more epic final stretch at the end. It was insane. And the parallels to Xenogears came in full force in Xenosaga 3...

And 3 focused a lot on KOS-MOS, so you might like to hear that. And 2 dealt a lot with Jr. and Albedo who was definitely an awesome villain, I wish his role in 3 was bigger.

Here's a random cool song from 3 I guess, hah:
