2d fps(frame rate)gasm

Post by thetooth »

Ok so i am looking for some stupidly animated games like metal slug or waku waku 7 and i'm guessing the neo geo is the best place for that but i want to know what are the most frame rate intense and fluid 2d(can have 3d for depth like in some newer shmups) games you've seen(also must be fun).

It can be from anything from 16-bit to ps2 for emu and for real i currently have a wii/gamecube, saturn and nds ready for backups(stealing and then buying out of impulse one day) ^_^

Wouldn't a 2D FPS just be a straight line?

Im confused at you question? Are you which 2D games run at the highest FPS (which will be 30/60) or are you asking which 2 game has the most frames in it, ie has the most fluent animation (For which case I have no idea, SFIII looks pretty nice though.

Yes games that have good animation and are not just wasting the 12-90 frames available just so the background scrolls smoothly

Any CPS3 game fits into this category. Those things are gorgeous.

I'm playing "A Boy and his Blob" on Wii at the moment, and it's gorgeous. Very "Studio Ghibli" in it's design.

Also seconding any CPS3 games. They're all worth looking at. Warzard/RedEarth, JoJo, any of the Street Fighter III games, etc.

You mentioned Neo Geo before: check out "Garou: Mark of the Wolves". More recently, KOF XII is well animated too.

Many of the old Disney games are worth looking at too. Jungle Book, Lion King and Aladdin on SNES and Megadrive/Genesis were all pretty fluid.

So was "Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure" on SNES (even if the game itself was shit). The Earthworm Jim games to a degree were high in animation frames (maybe not as high as everything else mentioned so far, but good for their time).

Old games that were super smooth. Flashback, Out of this World (I think), old 2D Prince of Persia games, and Kareteka.

The run cycle on Abuse was pretty nice as I recall.
