-I think we should consider taking a month or so off when shmups.org has their annual STG competition, since a lot of folks on this site/in this thread get involved in that.

Agreed on all three counts.

So is everyone in agreement that we should do one shmup per dev a month? I think it's a good idea but I hate to miss out on a bunch of good stuff. Can't play everything though, gonna have to wind up picking only 12 games a year anyway.

Well obviously we can't plan out the entire schedule by January, but maybe we should quickly pick a Toaplan game to play next month in the next few days here, and try to iron out the schedule for the rest of the year at the same time.

Here's what I was thinking for another voting system...

Everyone picks 3 Toaplan games and ranks them. After a good chunk of us have done our lists, we'll chalk up a score. The game on the top of your list is worth 3 points, second game is worth 2, last pick is worth 1. We'll play whatever game has the most points. Do a tie-breaker if necessary. If this voting system ends up working well we can use it to decide the rest of the schedule.

Not to ditch your idea EllertMichael, but this seems like it will get the decision made quicker.

Jan: Toaplan
Feb: Compile
Mar: Raizing
April: Cave
May: PC Doujin
June: G-Rev
July: SNK
August: Capcom
September: Taito
October: Treasure
November: Console Doujin

This seems like a good list but the absence of Technosoft, Konami and Hudson make me sad. Perhaps remove console doujin games and/or Cave? I only have a few console doujin games myself, not sure about the rest of you. I'm all for Cave of course but I know not everyone here has a current gen console to play them on, and the PS2 games are extremely expensive. But, if most of you guys have Cave shmups, I'm definitely game. I only have one now but that's going to change soon.

The Technosoft and Hudson shooters are pretty easy though so I can see that being a little boring, they're just so damn good though! Konami seems like a must for the schedule, although we did just do Gradius 3 in TR awhile back, so I dunno.

How the HECK did I miss this thread?!?!?!?!?!

TR -- Shmups Edition?

I'm in!

Good list of developers -- that's pretty much all of them. I am glad we have a Capcom month -- if it gets all of you in to EXEDEXES then that's a winner!

If Toaplan is first I'd love to see Truxton II -- another one not many have played -- but it's GREAT

I just quickly read through this -- so is this still an idea formulation or is everything set by month now since this thread is days old?

I'm not really fussed with this, but if you guys are gonna ditch one of those companies, then make it Cave. A Cave shooter is in the lists for Together Retro this year anyway.

I agree. Not much of a fan of the doujin. Also, we are doing a Cave shmup next year on the regular list.

Treasure could be Treasure/Konami based on the 2 companies and what they did/were -- for example Axelay was made by the soon to be members of Treasure.

Technosoft/Hudson needs representation. What about Seibu Kaihatsu? I'd be damned if there was no shmups club without a RAIDEN title.

Yeah I think Cave should go, mostly because of the DDP thing.

That's true but then Konami developed shmups would get no representation.

Yeah I know... we can't fit everything though.

Some thougts/ideas:

-We can do Metal Black for Taito and remove G.rev from the list. (But then Taito developed games would get no recognition...)
-Can remove console doujin and do Seibu Kaihatsu. I think Raiden definitely needs representation, even if I'm not the biggest fan.
-Can remove Cave and do Konami. No sense doing a Cave game really, and Konami's shmups are too important to ignore.
-We can remove PC Doujin too, but there are some great free ones out there. The problem is that the library has no overhead so voting would be hard. Or we could just play Crimzon Clover.

Jan: Toaplan
Feb: Compile
Mar: Raizing
April: Konami
May: PC Doujin or Hudson
June: Technosoft
July: SNK
August: Capcom
September: Taito
October: Hudson
November: Seibu Kaihatsu

Thoughts?

Once we get a the devs and months concrete someone can make up a big list of all of the games (I'm cool with typing it up) and we can do a big vote all at once if you guys want.

I like all the ideas so far (except ditching Cave ;))

Seems more retro than manic now though. I think Psikyo should have a spot over SNK or capcom personally.

But yeah, don't ditch cave :) g-rev might be tough, their best 2 games are very expensive.

Just some ideas, I want everyone to be happy with the lineup

So, are we combining taito with grev and konami with treasure?

We could maybe do video system combined with Psikyo?

I just want to see some score-based shooters. No reason to talk about scoring teqs in Gradius or Thunderforce.

Heh, maybe we should have a way to vote for devs? There are quite a few

I like the idea of Shmup of the Month, even if I'm not as hardcore as a lot of folks here.
