My latest batch:

Pitfall II (way better than 1)
Jungle Hunt (pretty solid game)
Galaxian (it's all right. I'm impressed with the lack of flickering)
Video Olympics (just waiting for a multi-player session for this one)
Defender (a whole lot of flickering. Kinda hard to tell what's going on)
Arcade Pinball (just okay)
Moon patrol (pretty legit. More fun than the screenshots make it look)
Spider-man (pretty challenging but I like it)
Omega Race (apparently requires a special controller?)
Dig Dug (pun intended but I really dig this version)

Dark Cavern (similar to Wizard of Wor)
Defender II (waaay better than the original)
Demon Attack (good Space Invaders-type shooter)
...

Yeah, Defender is found in so many other places, that it's not really worth it on the 2600. Defender II is legitimately impressive, even for a late (i.e. 1984, but released as "Stargate") game.

That said, I'm not sure how well the 2600 version stacks up against the NES version, but it's still plenty good on its own.

Do you have any other pre-NES consoles?

I did look for Defender 2 but couldn't find it, sadly. The first game is all right. Scratches the itch.

I also have an Intellivision. My favorites that I own are Thunder Castle, NFL Football, and probably AD&D.
I'm kinda surprised my INTV still works tbh. lol
The system feels more fragile than the atari.

No idea about INTV ports. I had no idea that Defender II was hard to find. Still worth keeping an eye out for you.

I'll be sure to look for it next time I'm out.

I did manage to get an old joystick and some more paddle controllers all for $8. One of the paddles is jittery so I gotta take it apart and clean it. I just need some new silicone grease to replace the old grease that's probably long since dried up.

Additionally, after going through three different carts I managed to find a working Donkey Kong. I kinda like the Atari version. Has a budget feel to it.

Donkey Kong for the Atari 2600 was the first thing I ever bought off eBay.

So far I've fixed 3 paddles. At what point do I put "General Atari Repair" on a business card? Lol

You must have needed some DK action!

AV mod your console, then you can put that on your business card!

But seriously, are you using RF output or do you have an AV mod?

I can't even remember why I wanted it.

Screw them paddles. Liked them as a kid, hate them now so I picked up a modded nes controller for 2600 and 7800.

RF only for my wood sixer. Not looking for any audio/visual improvements. Trying to keep it as classic as I can.

Why don't you like paddles now, stickem? Can you be more specific?
