I still love those styles of games though, so I'm super excited :)

loool. So basically because they delivered exactly what they promised? The only thing I would critisize them for about that, is if they kept Banjo Kazooie's "you have to play the entire level in one sitting for 100% completion" mechanic

I don't thiiiink so. The main complaints I've heard are:

-The voice stuff is annoying (it's the Banjo-Kazooie noises)
-The jokes are corny/not funny
-The level design is nowhere near as good past the first two stages
-Yooka controls a bit slippery (like Banjo used to, as far as I can tell)
-It's still effectively collecting notes and jiggies, which isn't a formula which has aged well (so they say)

Save for the stage design stuff, there's nothing there that's turning me away. I love all of that stuff. The silly voices have such a nostalgic charm for me. Also, I saw a little bit of a video the other day, and I think there might be a Sabreman cameo in this! (granted, it was just a skeleton with a pith-helmet, but it could well be him :P )

The level design thing is a bit worrying. Mind you I was also never a fan of the sequel, though I only got as far as the first area. Gave up on it when I had to get a jiggy from the first person section. In general it felt bloated (I remember there was a puzzle about you controlling a giant statue to open a gate, which didn't really add anything to the gameplay experience, other than that it looked cool). It felt like the game was a DIRECT sequel and that they kept building levels instead of refining first the gameplay. On the other hand I didn't get far, so that's probably not fair critisism on my part.

As for the corny humor, no shit sherlock  . if you don't mind, I'm going to go and listen to the Yooka Leylee rap once more :P (and a snake in the hat ;) )

It's actually kinda funny you say that about Banjo-Tooie, because Mayahem Temple (the first area) literally was supposed to be an area in the first game, but it had to be cut because it wouldn't fit. The other levels tend to be a lot more open, have more branching areas, and relate to other worlds more. I get what you mean about the bloat though. In terms of really adding to the 3D-platforming experience, a lot of the mini-game jiggies (of which there are MANY) and first person ones (of which there are only a few, but they aren't usually terribly fun :P ) don't really add to that. I still like Tooie better than the first one though. The game has so much more dialogue and characters, it gives it more appeal to me.

They killed off bottles  my favorite character afteer Kazooie...actually, it was their back and forth that I enjoyed in the first game. Oh well.

Turns out there is a mac version for this game. Just finished installing it, let's see if it's fun :D

I've spent some time playing the game tonight. I cleared out the majority of the first world (even reaching an area and collecting stuff I didn't have the appropriate move for yet, yay for finding exploits!) and opened up the second.

I absolutely love it so far. Its a joy to explore and control, and it's damn funny.

This is exactly the game that I was hoping for when I backed the kickstarter and I am a happy customer right now.

Aaaaaaaaannnnnnddddd.......of course my 2015 macbook pro can't run a fucking 3D platformer

I mean it runs it, but I had like 10 frames per second. Of what I played the game looks really fun, but it's true the camera controls badly for a modern game. Nothing that would stop me from playing the game, so I'm going to order it on PS4.

So much for getting the game from my kickstarter pledge

The gameplay is solid, really i would say it should be almost exactly what people were looking for, but it has a few annoying flaws:

-Unskippable cut scenes: plus there seems to be a full second pause between every line of dialogue. I'm a fast reader and it feels like I spend half of the cutscenes waiting for the next line.
- Annoying quizzes: Banjo Kazooie had a board game at the end of the game that asked you some questions about the game. I actually liked it. It served as sort of a montage of the game you'd spent 15 hours with, and it mixed questions with mini-games. I do not like the Yooka Laylee quizzes though. The first one comes after the first level, it felt like a tv show having a clip show after one episode (sidenote: the Clerks cartoon actually did this to great effect). When you play the quiz at the end of Banjo Kazooie you have to have played each level pretty thoroughly to have reached that point, so you're well prepared for it. On the other hand, you could head to the second world of Yooka Laylee after only briefly playing the first world, as I did, leaving you woefully unprepared for the quiz, and forced to play it three times to get through. I just beat the second quiz which (minor spoiler) the bad guy says is the last one. Thank god; he better not be lying.
-The third issue I have is more minor. I don't like how you have to learn how to float jump and how to high jump. High jumping is a basic platform mechanic that has been around for years, and float jumping was a basic mechanic in Banjo Kazooie. It was acceptable to learn these in Banjo Kazooie because the platformer was young, but this is meant to be a spiritual successor, not a remake. The other moves you learn are more unique fortunately.

Welcome to the boards ESauced. Yeah I already noticed the unskipable cut-scenes. Is the entire game as "talkative" as it is at the begining?

I have played it some more and it has gotten better. I have all 5 worlds unlocked and I haven't had to deal with any cutscenes to quizzes in a while. The last quiz was between World 2 and 3 and I think the last cutscene was between world 1 and 2.

Now that those are wrapped up the game is a lot more enjoyable. There are still a couple minor gameplay irritations. I'll mention them below but stop reading if you want the gameplay to be a surprise because these are later on in the game.

Gameplay spoilers:

-The casino level makes you do at least 5 slot machines to get pagies (hopefully no more, I haven't finished the level). They aren't random, and they're not too difficult, but they certainly aren't fun. One would have been fine, two would have been acceptable, but five is really frustrating. It just feels like padding.
-I got the ability to fly and it is really hard to control. Maybe I need more time to get used to it but it feels like drunk flying right now. Just weaving back and forth. I was trying to get items that were floating in the air and I just kept flying past them. I don't know why they felt like it needed to have a learning curve.

Spoilers over

Overall though it is feeling like a Banjo game, just with some annoying flaws. Of course, I'm sure Banjo Kazooie has its flaws; I was more forgiving when I was ten years old.

Is there a way to put things in bold on these forums?

I played around an hour and to be honest I'm not impressed from the first world :/. Banjo Kazooie's worlds' had all their obsticles and puzzles well intertwined. So far I kind of feel that everything is quite separate and just thrown in together in the same area. ofc it's not fair to judge the game by the first world only, so I'll keep playing. Hope it gets better.
