Data on female protagonists? (current/7th gen)

by PresidentLeever Sun Jun 16, 2013 8:21 am

I'm trying to get a satisfactory overview of the number of female and male protagonists for this (well, the previous) generation but I'm not finding it, and it's getting annoying. A Swedish website (loading.se) stated that they make up 3.6% of protagonists in all games, based on this article:
http://penny-arcade.com/report/article/ ... pport-them

Looking at the article, the site apparently twisted the facts as the article states that the figure is what you get from going only by games with protagonists that have a discernible gender in only three genres and excluding games where a female is selectable or creatable. Then it's 24 out of 669 games. I can't find the actual study though, so some questions go unanswered. How large a % do those three genres make up of the total number of games from that generation? What is the total number of games released in these three genres, and total number of games from that generation? Finally what about games where there's a party of several playable characters?

So does anyone know where one can view the EEDAR study, and or data on genre percentages?
