What would you ask him?

Post by Erik_Twice »

If you could meet the musician, designer or programmer for your favourite games, what would you ask them?

There's so much to ask about the original Pokemon, it's not even funny. I really don't know why there isn't a good book written by an actual fan instead of doctors trying to cash in on the phenomenom:

Why was a 1.1 version of Red/Green made? What changed besides the Lavender town theme? Why did the Cerulean Cave change for every version of the game, including the remakes? Who worked in Mother before making Pokemon and what's the influence of it? Why were the original 190 pokemon reduced to 150? Why did the development last for so long? Why is a pokemon graveyard in the game? Did you recieve any complaints? Why are Venomoth and Butterfree sprites changed? Is Gengar Clefable's shadow? What about Persian and it's beta third eye? EDIT: Glitches were incredibly popular! What did you think about them?

What are yours? :)

I wasn't refering to any particular book, I was just aware that there were several books written by doctors trying to explain why the game was popular. They mostly stated the obvious and were poorly written, AFAIK. I would love to have a good Pokemon book but I don't have cash to give the existing ones a chance.

Well instead of slamming "doctors trying to cash in" without actually reading their books, why don't you pony up the $10 for a used copy of this one and judge for yourself?

I have read some of the book and found it to be accessible and interesting, despite the fact that I don't really care at all for Pokemon. And what makes you think the author couldn't also be a fan?

I don't know of any other books on Pokemon that might be up your alley, but I do bet that you could find the answer to the questions you asked in the OP with just a bit of research and reading.

As I said, I wasn't refering to any book in particular, especially not this one.

What other non strategy-guide, non-fiction Pokemon books are there, written "by a doctor" or otherwise?

Dave's just upset because he's in the middle of his doctoral thesis on Pokémon.

How about, what DID you ask them?

I asked

,who created

,how he was doing (in addition to a number of other questions that were in the English textbook he was studying from). :)

I have probably met a number of other game designers/musicians, but I honestly don't know.
