My forte are portables. I have a fairly big library of games for the PSP/Vita and the DS/3DS. Getting physical media for those platforms is great because I know that the entire game is on that physical media. Storing those game are a bit easier due to the physical foot print they take (not very much compared to optical disc media).
Now here's the kicker: when it comes to modern consoles like the Xbox One and Series, I'm digital all the way. The physical games, in my experience, rarely contain the full game. Just look at COD 2019. When that was first released, it was a hefty 126GB on a One X drive. How big are those dual density BD disc nowadays? 50GB? Also, with the mandatory install, the entire game is installed onto the internal drive. If I want to play a game, I still need to stick a disc into the slot in order to play the game that is already on the drive. Kind of pointless, though I totally understand why they did it this way. Going all digital, I can have an experience similar to Steam on PC: select a game to play and just go. Build a new PC (or get a new Xbox), and take my library with me. On the 360, I bought a bunch of 360 and Original games that were carried forward into the One (and Series when I eventually get one).
For older consoles, physical media made sense (barring any high cost associated with collecting some of a rarer or hard to get games - Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver sold a lot but a cart only is $50-$70, for example). For the newer, internet capable (actually they rely heavily on internet), digital isn't a bad way to go.
My 2 cents.
I own too many hoodies jackets hoodies and DS games and I’m not ashamed!
