Potential problems would depend some on the particular revision that you have. That said, you may want to consider using a PS3 to play your PS1 collection instead, especially if you don't have good CRT setup. It's not perfect, nor does it achieve the best possible results, but it's the overall easiest way to go. Plus, you have the option to just buy some of the rarer titles digitally.

I also recommend ordering brand new jewel cases. The ones used for PS1 are pretty standard, and a new jewel case makes a CIB PS1 game look brand new.

I like you. Modern games suck.

In all seriousness though, you should check which model you have. Certain models are known for weird quirks like playing FMVs better when flipped upside down. Also, if you only picked up the base controls, consider picking up some Dual Shocks as soon as you can. The joysticks aren't always required, but they help a lot if you find them more comfortable than the d-pad. Be careful when you clean them though; the shoulder buttons can be a pain in the ass to deal with.

Also, did you pick up a memory card? And have you considered larger memory storage options such as devices that can be connected via the printer port?

There, that's the reason I might get an X-station. It will give me back my expansion port use for my Gameshark Pro (has virtual memory card banks). My other PS1 has a PSIO used in the expansion port.

20+ year old disc drives are a phobia of mine. One of my PS1 drives died at disc 4 of FFIX. Still need to finish that actually.
