Some stats
Total Games: 80
I am quite happy with the statistical breakdown below, as I managed to get 20+ platforms in and got closer to 50% retro games than I ever have before. I also think that I managed to find a healthy cross-genre balance, though FPS was once again the dominant genre for the third year running. I continue to be happy with the amount of RPGs I get in during the year, as those are the biggest time sucks in most instances and it can be hard to keep the overall numbers up for the year if too many of those are played, but it looks "cheaper" if very few are played, somehow . In any case, I think next year I want to give some different systems more love (I am shocked to see only one X1 game, no SAT, DC, or SNES games, etc.) and finish up the alpha-by-year challenge that I started this year but abandoned during the month and a half or two I got wrapped up playing Destiny: The Taken King (the game with the most hours for the year, undoubtedly).

Re: Games Beaten 2015
Great job for those that participated in this thread. I got a lot of ideas for games to check as I followed along all year.
Re: Games Beaten 2015
1/3: Super Mario Bros 2: Lost Levels (Luigi Run) (3DS VC/NES)
1/4: Super Mario Bros. (Wii / All-Stars)
1/15: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)
1/20: Super Mario Kart 8 (WiiU)
1/28: Super Mario 3D World (WiiU)
2/15: Luigi's Mansion 2: Dark Moon (3DS)
2/15: Super Mario Land (3DS VC/GB)
2/16: Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (3DS VC/GB)
3/3: Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land (3DS VC/GB)
3/13: Dragon Ball Xenoverse (PS4)
3/23: Metroid Prime (Wii)
4/18: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (Wii)
5/3: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii)
5/10: Donkey Kong Country (WiiU VC/SNES)
5/16: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Hyper Stone Heist (GEN)
5/23: Mario Party 10 (WiiU)
5/25: New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS)
6/18: Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)
8/9: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (WiiU VC/SNES)
9/5: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)
9/11: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (3DS VC/GBC)
10/22: Splatoon (WiiU)
10/27: Street Figher Alpha (Arcade/PS2)
11/3: Super Mario Maker (WiiU)
11/11: Hyrule Warriors (WiiU)
12/4: New Super Mario Bros Wii (Wii)
12/9: Fallout: New Vegas (PC)
12/12: Punch-Out!! (Wii)
12/26: Super Street Fighter IV 3D (3DS)
12/29: Ultra Street Fighter IV (PC)
Finishing the year on a PC game just to make Noiseredux really question the meaning of Christmas. Maybe it is the hype about SFV or the fact that I bought a stupid expensive arcade stick a couple months ago but I have been all about the Street Fighter the last few days.
Super Street Fighter IV 3D is still my favorite iteration of Street Fighter IV. It does not have the best graphics and its roster is very outdated but the ability to play SFIV while waiting to get my oil changed or right before bed is pretty amazing.
I picked up Ultra Street Fighter IV during the Steam sale simply for the value. It is a great final iteration of a great game and I really appreciate the roster. It is huge in a Capcom Vs SNK 2 kind of way but does not feel as unbalanced which is pretty amazing. A lot of the characters are obviously imported from Street Fighter X Tekken which is a nice nod to those of us who wanted to like that game but could not get around certain elements such as it sucking.
If I had any complaint about the Street Fighter IV series as a whole it is that the inclusion of Final Fight characters is great but it makes the exclusion of Rival Schools characters sting a little bit. I am hoping that SFV may one day see a grown up Batsu or Hinata join its ranks.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: Games Beaten 2015
I didn't play as many games as last year, not by a long shot but what I did play was generally of a higher standard. 60 games beat, some great new stuff, some great old stuff and some great replays. Happy.

Stats!
Games beaten by system:
Wii U: 4
Wii U Download: 2
Wii U VC: 1
Wii: 3
Gamecube: 2
N64: 4
SNES: 5
NES: 2
3DS: 4

Game Gear: 4
3DO: 1
NGPC: 1
XBLA: 1
PC: 2
Consoles with no beaten games: Virtual Boy, Pokémon Mini, PS2, PSP, XBox, TurboGrafx.
Pretty good spread of consoles this year. Most systems had at least one game beaten, with the majority at 2 or more. Not too many consoles with no games beaten either.
Physical/Digital split: 61 physical games, 19 digital
Console/Handheld/PC split: 38 console games, 40 handheld games, 2 PC games
A pretty good divide between console and handheld this year, almost exactly 50/50. PC gaming isn't really a thing I partake in often, so that's not a surprising number.
Games beaten by generation (ports counted as original system, remakes as new system):
Consoles:

Re: Games Beaten 2015
I wish I'd kept up my momentum, but I had a blast with what I accomplished. Life just went bananas after the summer.
Doing stats looks really fun, but I don't know if I'll get around to it promptly.
I'll just wind up bumping this thread in July.

Pure ARPG bliss. Killer art, soundtrack, and gameplay mechanics. A little short, but that's what Ys II is for, I reckon.
The Static Speaks My Name
Bizarre walking simulator with throwback 3D graphics and lots of WTF-ery. Interesting for the 15-20 minutes or so it takes to play, and it's free, so there's that. Also shrimp.
Walking Dead S1
Top notch Telltale work. I think I may have enjoyed The Wolf Among Us more, but this is a close second. Recommended.
Kirby's Adventure
The most fun you'll have with a NES platformer that isn't named Mario. Play this ASAP if you haven't yet.
Shatter
A worthy update to the Breakout/Arkanoid formula. Bumpin soundtrack, unique gameplay twists, sweet boss fights, and a low price tag. If you like breaking bricks, this is definitely worth checking out.
Yeah, hopefully I will beat more this coming year. I feel super inadequate compared to some of y'all.
2. Mario Party 8 (Wii)
3. Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition (Genesis)
4. River City Ransom (NES)
5. Persona 3 FES: The Answer (PS2)
6. Project X Zone (3DS)
7. Quake (PC)
8. Ultra Street Fighter IV (PC)
9. Doom II + Brutal Doom v19 (PC)
10. DLC Quest (PC)
11. Ys I Chronicles+ (PC)
12. The Static Speaks My Name (PC)
13. The Walking Dead - Season One (PC)
14. Kirby's Adventure (NES)
15. Shatter (PC)
Final count for the year. Quick thoughts:

Re: Games Beaten 2015
FINAL TALLY FOR 2015:
* William the Conqueror (Flash)
* Tomb Raider reboot (360), on Easy iirc
* Bioshock Infinite (360), on Easy
* Sum Fighter (XBLIG), Story Mode as Edison
* Nemo (Arcade, via Mame4Droid on Ouya), third-easiest difficulty
* Ducktales Remastered (360), on Easy
* Steamworld Dig (3DS)
* The Tipping Point (Android)
* Freedom Planet (PC), on Easy, as Lilac, Adventure Mode
* Steven Universe: Attack the Light (Android), 100% Completion
* DMC: Devil May Cry (360), on Human Difficulty
* Solitaire Mystery: Stolen Power HD (Android)
* Borderlands (360)
* Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen (PC)
* Solitaire Mystery: Stolen Power (PC), which I forgot to put into my posts
So that's 15, or 14 if you don't count the fact that one of the games is a port of another title on my list.
Oh, well. Maybe 2016 will be my year.

Re: Games Beaten 2015
Finally, the post you've all been waiting for: Ack's Games Beaten 2015 Post-Mortem!
This year, I successfully managed to beat 66 games. While it's nowhere near my highest(I cleared 100 a few years back), it beats my usual requirement to knock out 50. Here is the list in sequential order with URLs linking to my thoughts:
These are the amounts of games I beat for specific hardware:
PC: 52
SNES: 13
MVS: 1
Of the 52 PC games I beat, the list further breaks down into Steam, GOG, physical games, or browser-based games:
GOG: 37
Steam: 13
Physical: 1
Browser: 1
Over half of the 66 games I beat were from GOG. Not bad for the little digital distribution service that could.
Now for the genre breakdown:
FPS: 26 (including 4 hybrids)
RPG: 13 (including 3 hybrids)
Top-Down Shooter: 7
Platformer: 6
Survival Horror: 2 (including 1 hybrid)
Point and Click Adventure: 2
Third Person Shooter: 2
Run and Gun: 2
Beat 'Em Up: 2
Action: 2
Multidirectional Shooter: 1
Text Adventure: 1
Strategy: 1
Pinball: 1
Puzzle: 1
Fighting: 1
It's no surprise to me that FPS and RPG are my two most-played genres. All of the hybrid RPGs were also FPS, while 1 of the FPS was also a survival horror game...which is another genre I enjoy, though I don't play as much any more.
I'm surprised at the number of top-down shooters I played, as I usually don't go for the genre so much, but I owned quite a few on GOG and decided to go ahead and knock out most of them this year, hence why there are so many.
Platformers...well, it's not a genre I go for, but I played a variety of sub genres within it, including puzzle platformers and action platformers.
Most of the others don't surprise me, as they're genres I'll check out but tend not to spend much time with. They're just not personal favorites. The one big surprise though is at the bottom of the list: only 1 fighting game. For folks who have known me a long time, this might be a shock, as at one point I would have put fighting games at the very top of my list. What happened? Well, I try to play only games I have never beaten at this point to see what all is out there, and since I don't play fighters on PC, my only choices this year came on the SNES. I've beaten nearly every NTSC-U SNES fighting game by now, so I just don't have much in the way of options anymore. Eventually I will get around to polishing off the few remainders. In fact the only real big names left on the list to beat are MK3 and Ultimate MK3. I may do that for my next Summer Challenge.
Oh, and in case you were curious...breakdown by decade:
1980s: 3
1990s: 32
2000s: 16
2010s: 15
