October 2019 TR - Is That A Nightmare In Your Pocket...?
...or have you just come to kill me?
Welcome to October 2019's Together Retro.
The theme for the month is Portable Horror Games!
The only hard requirement here is to play portable games. While the theme is horror, that doesn't necessarily mean Survival Horror. Any appropriately spooky (kid friendly included), unsettling, gothic, or possibly demonic games are acceptable here. If it has that Halloween vibe, you're good to go.
It's okay to play games that have ports in either direction (portable to console, console to portable) but please try to stick to the portable version of whatever you decide to play.
Finally, please don't feel too constrained by the "is it retro" problem. If your only options aren't quite 10 years old, just play and don't stress about it.
Below is a short list of potential choices, with thanks to folks in the voting thread for offering plenty of additional suggestions:
Castlevania series - many options on GB, GBA, PSP, DS, 3DS
Silent Hill Origins/Shattered Memories - PSP
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare - GBC
Luigi's Mansion/Dark Moon - 3DS
Kid Dracula - GB
Clock Tower - Wonderswan
Corpse Party - PSP, 3DS, Vita
Dementium: The Ward/Dementium 2 - DS
Resident Evil Gaiden - GBC
Resident Evil Deadly Silence/the Mercenaries 3D/Revelations - DS, 3DS
Gargoyle's Quest - GB
Dark Arts: Beast Buster - NGPC
Vampire: Master of Darkness - Game Gear
Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins - PSP
Soul of Darkness - DSi
Infected - PSP
Nanashi no Game - DS
Spirit Camera - 3DS
The Addams Family/New Addams Family Series - GB, GBC
Doom/Doom II - GBA
There are also mobile options out there for those willing to delve in to that.
Have fun folks, I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone plays.

I'm a few hours into Castlevania Symphony of the Night on PSP. I'm really enjoying it now that I've leveled up and can kill most enemies in one or two hits. I like how the game doesn't hold your hand. You're just dropped into the castle, Death steals your equipment, and you're left to have at it.

alright so hear me out... Resident Evil Revelations was released originally on 3DS. It was later ported to Wii U. I have it on Wii U. But if I played it on the Gamepad, would that still be a "portable" version?
(I ask because there's been a delay in getting my cheapo copy of Dark Moon).

No objection from me!
What you SHOULD be playing, though, is RE: Deadly Silence, the NDS port of the original RE. It contains a straight port of the original game, but also an enhanced version with random touch-screen knife battles and a few modified touch-screen puzzles. It’s a great version of a great game.

Well, Nanashi No Game has proved to be far more of a bastard to find than I thought it would, unfortunately. It figures that the 500 yen copy I saw in Tokyo would be the only one I'd ever find
I'll start Corpse Party when I get home today. I've already got the Vita all charged up and ready to go for it~

I'm heavily inclined to play the original 3DS release of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate BUT i'm too much an achievement whore to do since i own it on my Xbox One AND i'm yet to play the previous game in the series : (

Sorry, couldn't resist.
That's fine with me man.

I didn't know Revelations was on Wii U. Did they release a disc or is it download-only?

Holy shit Castlevania: The Adventure is savagely bad.
