The game has no mouse support. Default controls are keyboard only. I believe the Ur-Quan Masters port supports game pads. The controls are very simple. While flying you have thrust, turn left, turn right. In menus you have select, confirm, cancel. On planetary landing you have thrust, turn left, turn right, fire, and lift off. In space combat you have thrust, turn left, turn right, fire, and secondary fire.

I finally got back to this and I think I completely understand it now. Mining is a lot of fun so far. It's even better that I can use the starmap to autopilot myself to where I need to go (that hyperspace music is *amazing*, I made a ringtone out of it!)

I made an alliance with the Spalthi (sounds like something out of Wing Commander), and now I can make their ships too. Now to find those Melnorme-ans again to get credits.

I'm getting it, and I'm really liking it.

You've completely hit the game loop. Now you get to explore more and follow up on clues.

I've done just that. Made an alliance with the 3-named alien race, and also defended them against an attack by an Ur-Quan offshoot race (I turned on the CPU battling, not much of a fan of the battles, really), and the Spathi ship has, no joke, B.U.T.T. rockets, referred to in game as such! I also discovered "Quasi-Space" and a device that allows me to use this alternate means of travel to save time and fuel (and an online chart that shows all the shortcuts), as well as getting that device that allows you to call the Melnorme when you need them. Getting farther and still enjoying it. Oh, I also stopped those crazy multiplying drones from going crazy all over space. The conversation with the owner of them was very interesting.

Now to find a place to get biological data quickly and easy to amass credits for new ship upgrades.

Ah yes, the Zoq-Fot-Pik. The race that brought us Frungy: The Sport of Kings.

Regarding biological data, in addition to stunning native life forms you get 500 credits if you scan a Rainbow World. There are 10 of them in the game and they always the closest planet orbiting their star. You can't really tell that it's a rainbow world from the solar view; you need to be orbiting the planet to see it.

I found those too. Not only is that 5000 easy credits, but the radioactives alone on the surface make for a nice haul back at the starbase. Now I've got all the Melnorme-an technological upgrades (near-indestructible landers? I'LL TAKE THOSE!) and some alien race information, I also upgraded my flagship with some sweet new weapons, modules and energy units. Off to find more races to form alliances with!

More people need to be playing this game. Hats off to BogusMeatFactory

Completed! I did it within a year of the deadline, but I learned that

putting the Ultron device together gives you a little more time with the alien race(s) you helped out.

The end was pretty fast and furious. The credits with everyone's aspirations for the "sequel" was fun to watch.

Also,

I'm happy that the captain did reunite with the Syreen chick. Good ending!

Thoughts in the Games Beaten thread later. A great way to close out 2016 and a game that MUST be played!

Popo and I have been extolling it's virtues. I am glad someone finally took us up on the suggestion!
