I'm trying to get a copy of R-Type for next month. I'm having difficulty deciding which version to get. Anyone got any thoguhts they can add?

Master System - Less arcade perfect, but a pretty good conversion for an 8 bit console. Will work with my FM sound adapter I bought, which is awesome. Cheapest of my 3 options, should cost about £10-15 at most.

Turbografx - Very accurate to the arcade from my understanding. Pretty hard to come by for a good price, typically seems to go for about £25-30ish if we're looking at reasonable Buy It Nows and auctions.

PC Engine CD - Has cutscenes (which aren't anythign special apparently) and a slightly odd remixed soundtrack, but it's the only way to get the full game on PC Engine, as the game is on 2 HuCards in Japan. About £35 overall, so pretty pricy.

I'm leaning towards SMS unless I can get a good price on the TG16 or PCE versions. Any thoughts?

The SMS version has some pretty bad sprite flicker. I've died a few times because I could not see a bullet about to hit me.

personally I think that SMS is the coolest of the 3 consoles you listed. But if you're gonna go NEC, I'd go all-in and get the CD version.

I'll be playing the Amiga port myself. It was made freeware by the developers.

The free Ur Quan Masters for PC is based off the 3DO version of SC2.

Just ordered a copy on 3DO. Hope it gets here before the end of the month.
