Ah, that's what I wasn't sure about. Thanks!
(It also explains why just keeping all balls in play without any real aiming or strategy was pretty effective at reaching the final goal. Not a ton of thinking required for that one.)

ExedExes wrote:... The murder mysteries was a feature that you'd not see in a regular straightforward pinball game, so there was that extra interactive element. Yep, still sounding pretty cool. Definitely think I'll pick up Whodunnit? eventually.

Played a handful of new (to me) tables last night, and was surprised by Haunted House. It's such a weird design, with the odd flipper layout and multiple play levels, that I'll probably stick with it for a bit to try and get a decent score. My biggest complaint is that some of the angles seemed odd - in either the cellar and attic, just banging seemed to be nearly as effective as a careful shot due to small play field (and my lack of skill). Probably gets better with experience and/or better grasp of the table goals?

Would love to see the actual table for this one in the wild sometime. I'm not sure if there are any pinball tables in town.

The TOTAN flyer points out that it was designed for a casual pinball experience, to bring those unfamiliar to pinball in to something that's a little easier to get into, which would explain the story modes not ending when you lose a ball, and a very easy "wizard mode" so to speak in saving the princess.

I like HH better than Black Hole, but as I get better at Black Hole I like them about the same now. HH has those 3 playfield levels that play off each other very well, with chances to double scores and bonuses on each field. Initially it had a bug with the "get extra ball" goal upon its release but that has been since fixed. Anything over a million is a good score. That's also a wizard goal I've completed on this!

Updates -

1 new standard goal complete for the following:

Firepower (Get 5x multiplier)

1 new wizard goal complete for the following:

Black Knight 2000 (Get King's Ransom -- all goals for this table now complete)

Just got a nice 3.3 million on pinbot for a hall of fame score of 330. Not sure why I didn't get the 2.5 mill wizard goal but did knock out all the standard

Some goals just don't register. It's always been a problem. I got the 2.5 million wizard goal. I'm missing "get million solar value" and "get sun special", which are both admittedly way harder for real/TPA than they are on the NES. I scored over 12 million on that.

So, what is everyone's least favorite table. For me, it's El Dorado: City of Gold. Easily the most forgettable table in the first two seasons for me.

I'll have to play that and get back to you.

I wasn't all that excited about Starship Troopers when it came out this season. I think there's nothing really exciting about it. I guess you really need to be a fan of the movie to enjoy it. The standard goals are a bit harder to get than the other tables, and the gap between the flippers is one of the widest I've ever seen. Sega taking over Data East Pinball was no good, lots of lackluster tables during that time, but fortunately Stern turned them around.

Cactus Canyon was kicking my butt today. Hope your ball never hits that pointless beer target, then it's the outlanes for you.

Love the Attack from Mars board, I believe the last time I played it could of been 1995 in a arcade at Long Beach Island, also winning (with tickets) the Original GTA for PS1 playing Skeeball there too!

There are still a bunch I haven't really spent time with (including El Dorado) but so far the table that just fails to draw me in is Cueball Wizard. It has some neat gimmicks and doesn't seem terrible... but fails to excite me in any measure.

I will also admit to not loving PinBot, but it's a classic and even though I don't always enjoy playing I do appreciate the table. Cueball Wizard doesn't get that same respect from me.

Weird because I totally expected one of the old tables like Big Shot or Genie to take this spot - but I'd play Big Shot over Cueball Wizard, while Genie ended up being a surprise favorite (for now).

Ok, I like Cueball Wizard, the TPA version is much better than the one on Microsoft Pinball Arcade. It's ridiculously easy to do well on, there are a few tiny Gottlieb hangups I don't like there (spelling DOUBLE and WIZARD for instance), but it's still fun.

So I tried City of El Dorado. Wow. For a 1984 release, it's as sparse and unexciting as one could get. I got 3 of the standard goals on my very first game though. But to be fair, it's based off a 1975 game called just El Dorado, which would explain why the field felt like a 70s release. Plus, if the top part with the 2 flippers and multiple drop targets reminds you of Genie, it was made by the same guy. I know this didn't go over well on the TPA fan forums.

I never ran into many real Gottlieb machines in the wild. Back in NJ it was Bally/Williams all day with maybe a few DE/Sega/Stern thrown in.
