Hi hailrazer. Will you be able to make these mods for the screen and battery again and when?

I just want to say THANK YOU to hailrazer. I did the screen mod on Monday, and it turned a system I've always felt was handicapped by a poor screen (only the original Game Boy screen is worse - GG isn't as bad as a Nomad) into the best portable of the 16-Bit era. There is no blur and the colors pop. Sonic is actually enjoyable on this screen. The increased clarity means that shoot 'em up games are also totally playable; even the fast ones. I play my Genesis (actually X'Eye) on a 36" Sony Trinitron (non-flatscreen - I prefer it for the classics) in S-Video, and the small LCD gives it a run for it's money. Fantastic.

As for my experience with the mod itself, they appear to have changed the PCB for the screen since the pictures in the thread; possibly for the better. (NOTE: I purchased the one in the eBay link in this thread) There was no brief display of AV2 on the Nomad screen as in the Youtube vid; it boots just like a regular Nomad, only with a modern screen. This is ACE and erases my only doubt about doing the mod. I was also still able to fit it into the case relatively easily (after removing the small molex connector). The solder points for video, gnd and power were different, but they were also labeled, so it was totally fine (like a car stereo board). The soldering with this isn't too bad, but the removal of the original screen is not for the faint of heart. It's a true point of no return. The finished product is absolutely stunning however, and well worth it.

The lack of a reset button does still cause me grief (I haven't found good directions for that mod - I've only found that one link to a picture of the Nomad board with an unidentified IC soldered to several barely distinguishable points - I want to do the press mode & start one personally), but this totally makes the Nomad a much better piece of hardware - and it uses less power too! Thanks again!

Glad it worked out for you and glad you like it.

Believe it or not , it's hard to convince some people on how much better this mod is than the original.

Oh well, their loss and our gain :)

Great mod, hailrazer! Do you offer your other mods for sale? For instance, the gamecube portable mod? Just curious. Can't wait to get my Nomad in the mail to start hackin it up!

Is this LCD usable for the Nomad mod? It seems to be cheaper than anything else.

I'm sure it works, however the board might be bigger and will not fit properly or at all.
I would stick with screen model in the guide for this mod.
