The NES port of Maniac Mansion is challenging if you haven't played a lot of graphic adventures, but nothing in the game is actually difficult to execute. The difficulty is all in figuring out what you should do.

Guerrilla War would be difficult if it didn't give you unlimited continues that drop you right where you left off. If you play it two-player, you can rejoin the game after dying by just pressing A and B together if the other player is still alive.

The first Wizards and Warriors is also not all that hard, and gives unlimited continues. Later games in the series are not so forgiving.

I'll second some of the above, particularly Rescue Rangers (the first NES game I ever beat), Duck Tales, and Kickle Cubicle.

M.C. Kids is also surprisingly high quality and not too difficult. The difficulty mainly comes from finding hidden items, and solutions are available online if you get stuck on that.

Super Dimension Fortress Macross (Famicom only) doesn't ever really end, but it's pretty easy to cycle the game over and over again.

I was actually thinking the same thing. In that spirit, I would nominate TMNT 2 and 3. Maybe not the easiest games if you want to roll the credits. But to just pick up and play, they're perfect.

Kirby was fun. Played it before but never beat it until just now.

Tiny Toons NES is not easy, heh. It's fun though.

I haven't been able to beat world 4 yet.
