What were the 80s like?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

YES! I was just thinking about this because I was watching The Toys That Made Us*. The scale of the two figures was so close that I always combined the two back in the day.

And yes - Storm Shadow was the baddest badass ninja.

*The Toys That Made Us is a docu series that just started on Netflix. It's good stuff. Ep 1 is about Star Wars action figs, and ep 4 is about GI Joe.

Can the Ghostbusters take down Skeletor? In my five year old mind, yes they could.

Of course they could! Skeletor is a skeleton. A skeleton is undead. Ghosts are undead... it could happen!!!!

Ghostbusters and GI Joe and professional wrestlers were my main toys growing up. Almost all of them ended up in a wrestling ring at one point or another.

Professional wrestling gets a lot more interesting when you involve some of those monster figures from the Ghostbusters toyline I'll tell you what.

I had some TMNT, the four main turtles, Splinter, Shredder and randomly one of the triceratops guys. My cousin was more into them, she had a huge collection.

I have some out on display and the rest are in a duffle bag in the closet somewhere. The only one I'm proud of is the all black super shredder. Some kid at school stole my purple one and I had enough pizza tokens to mail in and got the black Super Shredder.

I had it strange growing up as my mom never really had me focus on a line of toys all that much. I'd get a few Star Wars figures and X-Wing, some GI Joes and their vehicles, He Man at least had Castle Greyskull, car (argh) Voltron, a Robotech valkyrie (max, blue), just all sorts of little and not so little things, but nothing massive bigger than that castle.

Oddly one thing that stuck with me has been an interest in Robotech and also the (by lazy toy crossover) Transformers. I re-sparked the interest in that 2-3 years back and have built up an impressive selection of G1s, all but 1 of them are complete with the parts, and I have some scan cards and manuals too. I love to keep them on display and also photograph them from every transformation as it helps remind me how to do it, and lessen the need to transform them often which is playing with fire given the age. :D https://flic.kr/s/aHsmbXVHGg

Now I remember having some fun with like Robotech vs Voltron or the Star Wars stuff. Centurions with their zip lines built in along with GI Joe would be terror from above. I guess the old Nintendo wrecked me a bit, once that came to me at the end of 1985 most my focus ended up there with my stuff and with the friends in the neighborhood. I've still got a couple of the old trophies from the 80s along with a few other odds and ends like the SMB3 happy meal set. It was fun mixing the series up into little play times or battles.

You mean the one where Chewbacca's dad looks at what's essentially holographic porn?
