Just finished Blue Gold by Clive Cussler. This is part of the NUMA files with Kurt Austin being the main character. These are a spinoff from his flagship Dirk Pitt novels, and a few of those characters pop in & out. Most folks know of Sahara which is a Dirk novel.
The best way to explain NUMA (National Underwater Marine Agency) is an underwater NASA. Kurt Austin is a "special assignment" agent that gets drug into special forces type missions all dealing with boats, planes, helicopters, submarines... you name it. Usually some evil person or corporation trying to strong arm their way to power at the expense of others and Kurt & Joe swoop in. They're really fun thrillers. I can recommend this one.
Now onto Flood Tide which is one of his Dirk Pitt novels.
