There are several different proteins that are prominent in cat saliva and dander. There's a kind of "hypoallergenic" cat breed that has been engineered to not express the most common allergy-inducing protein, but people who are allergic to the others will not be saved by this kind of cat. Still, it might be worth investigating to have a furball in your life.

@mj, 4 kids and you guys are thinking about pets?! I've already got my hands full with one little monster running around.

Cats are cool, they poop in places people don't see. Everyone around here with dogs lets them poop all over the street, hate that.
