I am in the mood to start a retro RPG and I cannot decide which version i should play.

Always go for the original version. Also, 16-bit > 32-bit. The original has more charming character art, and is a more streamlined experience.

Both are good though. Why not just play both (not back-to-back of course)?

It depends, honestly. I think there are arguments for Silver Star on both platforms.

Eternal Blue, though, should be played on Sega CD, no question. Maybe even consider the UnWorked Designs patch if you do.

Original it is then! I just made a .chd file for my emulation PC .. but i looked up the patches and now i'll have to make a new one!

Yeah, definitely the original. I'm not positive that the Playstation one is basically the same as the Saturn version, but assuming they are, while those versions look a bit prettier, they do not play anywhere near as briskly. After playing the Sega CD version, I couldn't stand more than 30 minutes of the Saturn version, because the battles took forever, and were obnoxiously frequent, even though I could see the enemies on the map.
