Re: NES vs Genesis 1989-1991, what did or would you choose?
Well this time was special I didn't really care which console I had I just wanted one because for what felt like tge longest time I wasn't allowed one. However I had some experience in the Arcades so I got a taste for Sega games like Shinobi ajd Shadow Dancer. My friend had a Master system with Shin...

Re: How many of you are actually still using CRT TVs?
I just drove 6 hours to pickup my first pvm. I'm pretty stoked on it. I haven't had a crt in the house in probably 15 years. https://i.imgur.com/MAoXcCx.jpeg Great idea I think I'll do this too currently I have a normal shelf but its high maintenance I'm thinking getting one like this will be ideal

Re: Together Retro September 2021: "Inferior" Ports
You bring up some good points, msimplay. Back in the day, there were ports I wasn't even aware existed. If I hadn't heard about it word of mouth, saw it in a store, or saw it in a gaming magazine, I probably missed it. In regards to Street Fighter Alpha 2, I had the PS1 port as that's the console I...

Re: Together Retro September 2021: "Inferior" Ports
For the longest time I only wanted to play the best port of a game. However this can lead you down a long path of not playing anything. These days there is always a definitive port being released however sometimes being better in some ways doesn't mean the experience is what was intended. In my mind...

Re: Why does the PS1 work better upside down?
I thought it was the laser at first but now I have an X-station in there and still having the same issue it works better when upside down. What model PS1 do you have the X-station in? I ask because I got an X-station but haven't yet installed it. I have a 1001 with a dead drive and a 7501 that curr...

Why does the PS1 work better upside down?
Okay so I've searched all over the internet for an answer to this question. Why does turning the console upside down work when it starts failing to read discs? I thought it was the laser at first but now I have an X-station in there and still having the same issue it works better when upside down. S...

Yes but only the Mega Drive core supports that
Dithering was extensively used on pretty much every console back then even Snes

Re: What exactly IS that "original hardware feeling" to you?
You can get composite out of a Mister if you have the I/O board and an adapter. You have to also tweak some settings and change a jumper on the I/O board. m Yes I already have this but what I said previously stands. The cores have to support composite. The end result is not the same, if you have th...

Re: What exactly IS that "original hardware feeling" to you?
Yes I'm sure the cores don't support composite. But yes you can use the 240p output and use a convertor with it. However it doesn't have the same effect as a native composite output. You can compare for yourself a real Mega drive console composite vs MiSTer. The closest thing would be thr composite ...

Re: What exactly IS that "original hardware feeling" to you?
:) Lots of options. Almost none are the true "original hardware feeling." But that's okay. I've (mostly) chosen convenience and "QoL" improvements over "true" retro gaming. If the MiSTer ever gets Retro Achievements I'll probably start using that more. FPGA is very clo...
