Re: NES vs Genesis 1989-1991, what did or would you choose?
I got a genny at $190 with Altered Beast in 89 or 90. I welcomed the upgrade to my NES and SMS at the time. I do remember buying Castlevania 3 and Revenge of Shinobi at the same time, so I was still double dipping. By 91, I had a TG-16 CD-TOM upgrade and I was in the obey train. I pretty much neglec...

Re: Console of the Month (August 2022) - Sega Master System
I had a SMS in '88 along with a NES. I really enjoyed R-type, Phantasy Star, Hang-On and Golden Axe (the beat'em-up, not the Zelda clone) back then. I sold off a lot of my library when the Turbografx and Genesis came out but in the past 5 years, I've been rebuilding my collection. Some games I've (r...

...There's also a port of Jim Power which is good if you're down with that Euro feel and lots of collectible point items. Let's not forget Turrican is also out there. I would not recommend it, but for those that love the "euro" feel. I also concur with the prior posts, all the mentioned g...

Re: Which model of MSX is the best choice?
Forget the last TurboR revision unless you hate your wallet That's for sure! The R seems like collector bait to me since it's heralded as the most complete MSX. But to me, not being able to play the few JP digital comics and jRPGs is not a deal breaker. There is enough titles(I'd go so far as to gu...

Re: Which model of MSX is the best choice?
Seems that you figured it out. I don't have FM on my MSXs so I cannot speak from experience but the SCC sound is quite impressive.

Re: Which model of MSX is the best choice?
I'm not really sure if the Sound Cartridge can be emulated since a flash cart wouldn't have the audio chip and IDK if you can get a ROM for it! That is what I also read, you need a real/rare Konami Sound Cartridge. Jagosaurus is starting off with one of the challenging titles to run on real hardwar...

Re: Help indentifying arcade cabinets
In that case, I definitely wouldn't try to MAME that thing. I'm not one for MAME-ing anything, but you wouldn't be using the power supply from it anyways. I doubt it's JAMMA, so JPAC will not help you unless you re-do the wiring. Might even be a good idea to throw a LCD in place of the CRT (it MUST...

Re: Help indentifying arcade cabinets
Aren't STERN cabinets generic cabs like the Dynamos? Nothing back then was generic. I'm sure other Stern games could work in it, but it's has odd power and wiring, by todays standards. Only after JAMMA took off did we get true generic cabs such as the ever present Dynamo. Of course an operator can ...

The Ark is a Stern cab, maybe Scramble:
The Tetris cab does not jog any memories. The coin door makes me think it's a 90's cabinet. Maybe on the rear panel(s) there is a sticker or some manufacturing details.
