Re: Dragon's Crown

Guardian Heroes had that giant skeleton dude. Aside from that, I can't think of many. I do have a fondness for that skeleton. There's something about his anger management issues that's just really endearing. The River City Ransom Underground developers have stated that you'll be able to recruit def...

I think I might have visited that church at some point, or at least gone to a Cobra Kai themed church summer camp.

Re: Dragon's Crown

Well, for all of its flaws, I've still put over 200 hours in this. Ultimate difficulty really gets ridiculous with the red aura enemies and boss battles. In any case, one thing I appreciate about Dragon's Crown is the ability to bring along up to 3 AI allies. Beat em ups where you're fighting all by...

Re: Favorite Beat em Ups!

It's tough to rank my favorite beat em ups, so just in alphabetical order: Die Hard Arcade & Dynamite Cop Double Dragon Dragon's Crown Guardian Heroes River City Ransom Double Dragon seems rather basic compared to some more modern attempts at the genre, but it was my first beat em up, so it hold...

Running With Rifles (and netWAR)

Well, thanks to some industrious Racketboy members I've made my way back to the forums and figure I'll start off by asking if anyone else here has been playing Running With Rifles? It's an isometric-ish shooter (super zoomed out) that to me feels a little bit like a combination between Cannon Fodder...

Re: A scholarly article on piracy that uses RB forum threads

Surely the Hawthorne effect and possible intrusions of personal bias had less of an effect on your subjects than the subtraction of your previous participant-observer status within the subcultural community... which is my academic way of saying "WE MISSED YOU!" That's a really good point,...

Re: A scholarly article on piracy that uses RB forum threads

Thank goodness the pitchforks will remain sheathed (do you sheath pitchforks?) for now. To answer a couple of questions posed in this thread: I'm not sure what to make of the changing landscape of what is considered retro. Obviously digital distribution and always-on DRM is also changing the retro c...

Re: A scholarly article on piracy that uses RB forum threads

I'm here to solve the mystery for all of you, and post for the first time in a LONG time. *drum roll* I'm the author of the article! A few words about the context and other issues surrounding the article: At the time I was quite heavily into the DS homebrew scene and that's primarily what prompted m...

Awesome. DK Jr. is probably my favorite classic arcade game. It is damn hard though.
