What Is The Best Light Gun Game/Series?

To go along with our light-gun-themed Together Retro installment this month, I thought it would be fun to get everyone’s opinions on the best light gun game(s) or series of all time.

We took nominations in the forum here, and now the voting begins.   You can vote for up to three options — just make them count!  And feel free to justify your choices in the comments section below!

House of the Dead is cheesetasicly awesome. Great voting subject by the way Racket.

Patrick says:

Time Crisis personally.

Ala the only one I didn’t suck at.

Franco says:

Area 51 was pretty cool at the time.

Eddie says:

Carnevil is one of those games I always remember playing because the levels were creative and it was so weird. But as an old school gamer, I always liked Operation Wolf. The little town I lived in had this game in the pizza parlor and it brings back memories.

I’m torn between Super Scope 6 and Silent Scope. I have such fond memories of Super Scope 6, but if I could play just one of those today it’d be Silent Scope.

And I would be able to play it today, if the Xbox version I bought brand-new ever worked properly.

You know what… I’ll go with Duck Hunt.

Put in my vote for Time Crisis but Virtua Cop is a close second.

Had to put also a voice out there for the Point Blank series. And that voice is from my wife.

micky says:

Also I cannot believe Revolution X and Terminator 2 didn’t make the list!

Sturat says:

Sorry I missed the nominations, now Missile Defense 3D isn’t on the list! The game still looks amazing today, and it also an amazingly unique concept: Two warring cities are launching nuclear missiles at each other, and you have to shoot down all hundred-some of them. If just one of their missiles makes it past your satellites, you lose. That’s all it takes.

Luke says:

T2: The Arcade Game was awesome. Should have been on the list

elvis says:

Only three? Man, I always find it so hard to narrow these things down. So many great series to choose from…

Ryan says:

Oh, I only chose Laser Ghost before I realised i could pick three, lost my chance now…
Anyway, yes, Laser Ghost, the only Master System game where you defend a dame from ghosties whilst she walks through a haunted house. It’s good. Better than Operation Wolf at least.

rid says:

i’m a big time crisis fan, like the foot pedal. and before that, virtua cop was fun.

hmm… can’t say much for the rest, but elemental gearbolt was interesting.

Alex (PresidentLeever) says:

I’m pretty sure those who picked Duck Hunt haven’t played any other light gun game.

Phos says:

Gunblade NY only got 3 votes? Unbelievable.

NebachadnezzaR says:

Wow, a poll where all the 3 top games were my personal choices 😀

BIZ says:

Going by number of quarters spent:

Area 51
House of the Dead
Time Crisis

Xonticus says:

W00t, Two Sega games in top 3!

yo there says:

People please, there are many point and shoot games not mentioned here because they were basically one-off’s, not part of a SERIES.

Time Crisis doesn’t hold a candle to Virtua Cop/Virtua Squad, but plays like a master class compared to the likes of Area 51, which were horrible when they came out! Forget the graphics, even the gun they used was junk!

Police 911 was very innovative (actually getting motion right) – remember the Sega Activator, Para Para Paradise, and such…

for genuine fun nothing beat Virtua Cop 2, Lucky & Wild, or Crisis Zone (when they came out).

Mad Dog or Lethal Enforcers.. junk. Even for the Sega CD or 3DO.

The current kings are probably Wartran Troopers or whatever. Basically anything you’ll see under the Sammy name in N. America

Jones says:

Carnevil looks awesome… only that I don’t think I will ever see the arcade machine in my lifetime…
