The Racketboy 2009 Charity Auction
The Racketboy 2009 Charity Auction to benefit the children and families of alcoholics.
This year, racketboy.com forum members will have an opportunity to help out those in need of your donation and support. In what he hope becomes an annual tradition, we have decided to hold a charity auction to raise money for two groups that do a lot to help children and families of alcoholics: The National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACoA) and The Betty Ford Clinic Children’s Program.
The auction is currently up and running and will end at 11:59PM EST on December 26th. Bidding on each item starts at $1, and shipping on everything is free within the USA (all shipping costs have been donated). Full details can be found in the auction thread, which is located here:
Auction Items
Here’s a sample of some of the items available, all of which have been donated by forum members:
- Systems: Sega Dreamcast (x2), Sega Genesis (x2), Game Boy Advance, Bentley Compu-Vision, and more
- Games: Over 100 games for more than 20 systems!
- Accessories: 17†LCD monitor, a Nintendo Gamecube 5†LCD screen, controller bundles, system cases, and much more
- Print: Collectible game guides, vintage magazines and promo materials
- Toys: Japanese exclusives, handheld games, and much more
- DVDs/CDs: 20+ items to bid on
We also have some auction items not found anywhere else:
- Signed memorabilia from Keith Apicary (from TalkingClassics)
- “Guest Director†position for an upcoming Retrogaming with Racketboy Podcast – tell us what to cover, who to interview, what to play, etc. Your wish is our command!

So why are we doing this?
As many of you know, one of our long-time forum member and site contributors recently lost his mother due, in part, to complications from alcoholism. This auction is, in part, a way to honor her memory. It’s also a way to help children who need it.
The NACoA advocates for public funding on behalf of children and families of alcoholics. According to the NACoA website:
The National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACoA) believes that none of these vulnerable children should grow up in isolation and without support. NACoA is the national nonprofit 501 (c) 3 membership and affiliate organization working on behalf of children of alcohol and drug dependent parents.
Our mission is to eliminate the adverse impact of alcohol and drug use on children and families.â€
The Betty Ford Clinic Children’s Program has a direct role in the lives of these children:
These groups do important work, and we hope you can do your part to help them out. There’s a lot to look at and bid on and it’s all for charity – so be generous with your bids!

I would donate, but frankly, ALCOHOL RULES. Nothing describes a better night for me than one loaded with booze, cigarettes, and video games.

Those who are participating in the auction don’t necessarily have anything against alcohol or even getting drunk, provided both are done responsibly.
The auction is to help out the *families* of people who are alcohoics. Refusing to chip in a few bucks to help kids whose parents are making their life hard because you think that “ALCOHOL RULES” is not a principled stand. In fact, it makes you look like an asshole.
The auction has raised over $1,000 so far – keep the bids coming!
